The Hustle Season Kickoff took place from Saturday, March 27th through Sunday, March 28th, and featured 45 programs ranging from 15 to 17U. The event also featured several promising big men. In this article, we take a look at the top BIgs for the event.
Jordan Williams 6’5 PF Cal Elite Anthony 2022 – He’s an undersized big, but his motor, athleticism, and quick second jump made him difficult to contend with all week. He scored by catching and finishing in transition. Defensively his athleticism allowed him to hedge and switch ball screens fluidly.
Henry Nauci 6’6 C WCS/HTS Academy 2022 – Nauci was good right around the basket. He was able to grab boards and finish with his strong hand. He was dominant on Saturday posting a 20 point 14 rebound performance. He followed that up with a consistent Sunday, grabbing offensive boards, and posting a 21 point performance against Thurston County.
Yusuf Kibira 6’5 PF Eagles Academy 2022 – Kibira was a revelation this weekend. A true sleeper, he flew through the air grabbing out of area rebounds at a high rate. Kibira is a quick 2nd jumper which allowed him to snag balls off the backboard and quickly turn them into points for his team. Behind his play, Eagles Academy completed an undefeated weekend.
Chae Haynes Chae Haynes 6'6" | C Life Christian Academy | 2022 WA 6’7 C Eagles Academy 2022 – I think I’ve joined the Haynes bandwagon. The big-bodied banger was unstoppable this weekend. Haynes possesses great hands, he caught a bullet of a pass from a teammate that only All-Pro wide receives retrieve. He’s a banger that’s not a plodder which I love. Haynes routinely showed the ability to sprint the floor for early post-ups, when he caught the ball, he showed good feet and a soft touch around the basket.
Mason Mich’l Mason Mich’l 6'7" | PF Desert Oasis | 2021 State NV 6’7 PF Hard 2 Guard 2021 (#11PHN 2021) – Mich’l displayed his heart and skill on Sunday. The athletic wing, almost won a game by himself, for a shorthanded H2G squad. His motor was remarkable, as he sprinted the floor, caught, and finished at a high level. He’s so good with both hands around the rim, that after two years, I still don’t know what his dominant hand is. He capped off the weekend with a 31 point performance, in a hard-fought contest that H2G only had 5 players available for.
Joshua Jefferson Joshua Jefferson 6'8" | PF Liberty | 2022 State #158 Nation NV 6’6 PF West Coast Select 2022 – Jefferson was the best big at the event. If anyone thinks he’s not one of the top rebounders on the West Coast, just turn on the film of his performance this weekend. After losing fellow forward Aaron Price Aaron Price 6'7" | PF Liberty | 2022 State NV , Jefferson decided to put the rebounding duties on his shoulders, grabbing every defensive board for WCS in a hard-fought battle against a good Build Up squad. His ability to recognize mismatches and back opponents into the paint off the bounce is awesome and his footwork with his back to the basket can be described as elite.
Jerimiah Hannah 6’6 C Splash City West 2021 – Length, size, and athleticism are what Hannah brought to the Hustle Region this weekend. He’s a fluid runner and a quick jumper. His motor and defensive prowess provided rim protection for SCW all weekend. Offensively he attacked backboards with relentless abandon, using his quick second jump to put back several offensive rebounds.
