BELLFLOWER, Ca—It was the first day in a high school gym in well over a year to witness a showdown of two to the top programs in Sourthern California in St. John Bosco and Windward. The Braves of St John Bosco would eventually wear down Windward in a hard-played game 58-41. Here are the players that stoodout for each team.
Best Prospect
Jeremiah Nyarko Jeremiah Nyarko 6'7" | PF St. John Bosco | 2022 State #209 Nation CA-S (St. John Bosco)
2022, PF/WF, 6-foot-8, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: The long and rangy 4-man is evolving into a top-tier talent. He can shoot the 3-point shot, operates from the elbow well due to his touch and quick first-step, and he can explode to the rim for the emphatic finish.
Best All-Around
Scotty Washington Scotty Washington 6'4" | SG St. John Bosco | 2021 State #223 Nation CA-S (St. John Bosco)
2021, SG, 6-foot-4, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Washington was arguably the best all-around player in the first half as he sliced and diced the defense with his slashing drives and 3-point touch. He can rebound, lead the break, and deliver the pass to an open teammate. Defensively, he has the length and lateral quickness to effect the game and shut-down opponents.
Dylan Andrews Dylan Andrews 6'3" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #23 Nation AZ (Windward)
2022, PG, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the better junior guards in the state, and the country for that matter, is Andrews. He is always engaged as he plays with a high motor at both ends. He can play both guard positons due to his scoring skills at all three levels as well as his facilitatiing ability.
Paul Milsap-type
Kijani Wright Kijani Wright 6'8" | PF Sierra Canyon | 2022 State #63 Nation CA-S (Windward)
2022, PF, 6-foot-8, 240 pounds
Joel’s Take: This high school version of Paul Milsap (Denver Nuggets) had an up-and-down outing due to foul trouble. Wright is chiseled 4-man who can step out and shoot the jump shot or finish over either shoulder in the paint. When he keeps it simple on the block and pops in the occasional jump shot, he is the tough to deal with.
Late-Charger
Lamaj Lewis Lamaj Lewis 6'4" | PG St. John Bosco | 2021 State #236 Nation CA-S (St. John Bosco)
2021, CG, 6-foot-5, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: Lewis struggled for about 3 quarters as he just couldn’t seem to find his touch and he was erratic with his ball handling. However, in the fourth quarter who exhibited the reasons why LMU took him in the early signing period. He has intriguing ball skills, very good length, and he can finish with either hand. I’m not sure what his position is at the next level, but he has savvy, solid ball skills, and he impacts the game in a variety of ways.
