With around 42 basketball players in attendance we got to see guys participate in a combine like atmosphere, individual skill work, shell drill, and playing up and down 5 on 5. This is Part 3 of the series.
Jeremiah Stanton, 6’2 Guard, Shawnee Mission North: Guard with a good length, handle, and change of speed that can get into gaps and create shots for others. Rebounds well for a guard and is quick to push it off the rebound into transition and is good about kicking it ahead up the floor. He has a great attitude on and off the floor and would fit in to a ton of team systems. He averaged 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds on the season.
Mike Carson Mike Carson 6'4" | PF JC Harmon | 2021 State KS , 6’3 Guard, JC Harmon: A near double double average on the season with a monster stat line of22 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals per game. He has a 33 inch vertical leap with a long wing span and frame. He is a consistent threat in transition or to slash the lane off the drive and finishes at a high clip. A versatile guard/wing prospect that can guard and play multiple positions.
Tyler Carr, 6’ Guard, Kearney: Averaged 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game on the season for Kearney and was a solid piece to what they wanted to do this year. Another plug and play solid guard across the board who plays with some grit and tenacity on the floor and can make a variety of things happen on the offensive end. Solid shooter, physical, and steady ball handler for a team out there looking.
Sam Derning Sam Derning 6'2" | CG Shawnee Mission West | 2021 State KS , 6’2 Guard, Shawnee Mission West(pictured): Derning was a fun guard to watch compete and go back and see his highlights. He has a really solid looking jump shot especially when he is able to hop into it off the move or bounce. He was good in the isolation game and taking guys off the dribble, has a nice floater game as well if he gets cut off or stops short. Played well in pick and roll stuff and was never caught trying to make something crazy happen and kept it simple.
Chauncey Keys Chauncey Keys 6'4" | PF JC Harmon | 2021 State KS Jr, 6’3 Wing, JC Harmon: A huge piece for JC Harmon this year, Keys is an aggressive player who played with a ton of upbeat energy on Saturday. He looked to have a little bit of everything in his arsenal. He averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game this season at Harmon. he has good size and athleticism as well with a long wing span and a 35 inch vertical. Could be a bigger guard that could put a lot of pressure on defenses in the paint with his slashing ability and size combo.
Connor Renard, 6’7 Forward, Lincoln Northeast (NE): Renard was one of the more impressive bigs at the combine. Long reach and wide shoulders allowed him to cover a ton of area and he could really move out on the floor. Finished well with both hands, was physical in the painted area, with soft touch on the ball. He averaged 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game last season. An intriguing big who could provide a nice late boost for a program.
