It does happen and it has been happening more often lately. In this article, we will look at players in North Dakota that have the skills and potential to play Division-1 basketball.
Alphabetically here is our list of players that we think can play D1 basketball:
Anthony Doppler Anthony Doppler 6'4" | SG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-3 G| Bismarck Century – AAU team= ND Phenom. A big strong and physical guard. Anthony has the size and skill to play at the next level. His shooting ability and range extend out beyond the college arc. He has the vertical to play above the rim and he can wham it home with authority. With a great showing in the AAU season, I would not be surprised if he gets looks from D1 schools.
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 G| West Fargo – Him and the Packers won the State Title. Carson had a phenomenal season and tournament. Hegerle is a scoring machine. He is a dynamic athlete who belongs in a D1 sport. Carson has been getting a ton of interest and multiple D1 offers for football. Right now, it seems like he will be playing football at the next level. If he ever changes his mind, he could also play D1 basketball.
Conner Kraft Conner Kraft 6'5" | PF Shanley | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-6 F| Shanley – AAU team= Howard Pulley. A powerful and explosive athlete. He showed off his athletic prowess this season in the EDC. I witnessed many rim-rocking slam dunks that left me in awe. As his game develops and his shooting improves, he will be and absolute nightmare. After a spring/summer with Pulley and competing against other great athletes I would imagine he will be a different player. I see him as a Mid-Major prospect or higher.
Gus Hurlburt Gus Hurlburt 6'9" | PF Enderlin | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-7 F| Enderlin – AAU team= D1 Minnesota. He is receiving interest from Summit League teams and has 1 offer. Gus is a well-rounded player that can do it all. He has handles, passing ability, strong post moves, and a consistent shoot. He has a nose for the ball when rebounding. I see him getting more interest from Summit League teams and other Mid-Major schools this spring/summer.
Jeremiah Sem Jeremiah Sem 6'3" | SG Fargo North | 2024 State #303 Nation ND (2024) |6-1 G| Fargo North – AAU team= ECI Prospects. A magnificent athlete that moves like very few players can. He is on a different level athletically compared to everyone else in the state. Sem showed last year that he can take over games in the EDC and dominate. After more college scouts watch him first-hand, they will be drooling. I am projecting him to be a Power-5 high D1 recruit.
Joe Hurlburt Joe Hurlburt 6'10" | PF Enderlin | 2022 State #147 Nation MN (2022) |6-9 F| Enderlin – AAU team= D1 Minnesota. He has verbally committed to Colorado. Joe will be playing in the PAC-12 after his season. He has offers from big D1 schools all over the country. He obviously has the size to play D1. Hurlburt also has the skills of a shooting guard, and he is very smart. His deep outlet passes are the best I have seen from a high school player. After his senior season is over it will be fun to look back at his highlight tape, it will be one for the ages.
Mason Klabo Mason Klabo 6'2" | PG Fargo Davies | 2025 State #240 Nation ND (2025) |6-1 G| Fargo Davies – AAU team = Team Tyus. Only an 8th grader but he held his own in the EDC and excelled at times on varsity. The sky is the limit with Klabo. At 6’1” and in 8th grade, he is already dunking. I expect him to keep growing quite a bit. Mason is a lethal 3-point shooter with extended range. His confidence is impressive. I am not going to predict what level of D1 he will get offers from with him only in 8th grade. His ceiling is very high, and I can absolutely see him as a D1 player in the future.
Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 G| Beulah – AAU team= Pentagon Schoolers. He is receiving interest from multiple D2 schools. Trey is the ultimate point guard and leader. He is a clutch performer and an ultimate competitor. He thrives in big moments. Brandt is a gym rat. He has all the tools and ability to play D1. Trey is an underrated athlete. After college coaches see him up close this spring and summer, I expect the D1 offers to start coming in from Summit League teams and Mid-major programs very soon.
Treysen Eaglestaff Treysen Eaglestaff 6'5" | SF Bismark | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-5 F| Bismarck – AAU team= D1 Minnesota. He is receiving interest from the Summit League and he has an offer. He certainly passes the “eye test”. If you watch him play for 5 minutes you will know he is a stud basketball player. He is a light’s out shooter with a great feel for the game. I predict he gets many Summit and Mid-Major offers this spring/summer.
