In the semifinals, Ann Arbor Huron defeated a tough Warren De La Salle squad by a score of 55-39. On the other side of the bracket, Grand Blanc defeated a talented Grand Rapids Forest Hill Northern 68-59. The championship was an instant classic, with Grand Blanc edging by a score of 45-36.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Tyson Edmondson Tyson Edmondson 6'5" | SG Ann Arbor Huron | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Ann Arbor Huron)
Edmondson is an elite shooter with in the gym range. His shooting was evident with his 18 points in the semifinals and was essential in Ann Arbor Huron advancing to the championship game.
Ethan Erickson Ethan Erickson 6'1" | SG Forest Hills Northern | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern)
Shooters shoot, and that’s what Erickson did. He had 19 points in a tough semifinal loss.
Linden Holder Linden Holder 6'0" | PG De La Salle | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Warren De La Salle)
His team may have lost, but Holder did more than hold his own. He led his team with 19 points and was a leader on the floor.
Kingsley Perkins Kingsley Perkins 6'7" | PF Ann Arbor Huron | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Ann Arbor Huron)
Perkins proved to be a difference maker in the paint throughout the Final 4. He pulled down 14 rebounds in the championship game.
Josh Rechsteiner Josh Rechsteiner 6'1" | CG Grand Blanc | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Grand Blanc)
In the state finals, somebody has to hit ’THE SHOT’. This year it was Rechsteiner’s triple that gave Grand Blanc the lead and the momentum. Without his clutch 3, the game could have ended much differently.
RJ Taylor RJ Taylor 6'0" | PG Grand Blanc | 2023 State #262 Nation MI (2023, PG, Grand Blanc)
If we could have 2 MVP’s, Taylor would be our second. We can talk about his 15.5 points per game in the Final 4, or even his plethora of assists, but it wouldn’t sum up his influence. Taylor is a true point guard and floor general at the highest level.
Devin Womack Devin Womack 6'2" | CG Ann Arbor Huron | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Ann Arbor Huron)
Womack always plays big in big games and he did it again in the state championship game. He had 18 points in the game.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Ty Rodgers Ty Rodgers 6'6" | SF Grand Blanc | 2022 #34 Nation IN (2022, SF, Grand Blanc)
The legend of Ty Rodgers Ty Rodgers 6'6" | SF Grand Blanc | 2022 #34 Nation IN has begun. He just led Grand Blanc to it’s first state championship in school history. The way he controls and influences a game, no matter what his numbers are, is miraculous. Rodgers is simply a constant threat to blow a game open with an eye popping dunk. In the semifinals he scored 19 points and grabbed 12 boards. In the championship game, his all around game was key. Rodgers finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and a smattering of assists and steals to go with it. The Ty Rodgers Ty Rodgers 6'6" | SF Grand Blanc | 2022 #34 Nation IN story may be just beginning as his team will be one of the preseason favorites to bring home a second title next year.
