Continue ReadingWith it being such a strange year for 2021 prospects there were quite a few high-profile unsigned seniors and prospects that plan to reclassify going to prep school on hand at the Chi-Town Tip Off. We examine a few that made the biggest impression on the 90+ college coaches that were in attendance here in Chi-Town Tip Off: Top Illinois Unsigned Seniors!
Freddie Cooper Freddie Cooper 6'4" | SG Corliss | 2021 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars)
Cooper was probably the biggest stock riser of this group. He wowed D2, NAIA, and JUCO coaches all weekend. The Corliss combo guard displayed explosion off the bounce over and over winning off the dribble. Such a great burst on his initial first step along with being bale to drain pull up mid-range jumpers and threes off the catch. Expect his stock to skyrocket after this weekend.
Jakobi Heady Jakobi Heady 6'8" | SF Hillcrest | 2021 State IL (God’s Gift)
Heady is the top uncommitted wing in Illinois’ 2021 class. The Hillcrest rangy small forward is a plus scorer that is explosive off the bounce and in transition while being a more than adequate three point shooter. Posted consistent scoring numbers all weekend. One of the best JUCO targets in the country.
AJ Wells AJ Wells 6'5" | PF Homewood Flossmoor | 2021 State IL (A3 Athletics)
This Homewood Flossmoor power forward started the event off the right way on Friday night. The unsigned senior post was dominant from the tip throwing down thunderous dunks and rebounding everything that was near him. The 6’5” four man has a tremendous frame and strength. Physical defender around the hoop. Showed some skill we hadn’t previously seen stepping out to hit a top of the key three along with a baseline jumper. Small colleges and JUCOs should jump in now.
Phillip Berryhill Phillip Berryhill 6'5" | SG Curie | 2021 State IL (Bstrong Monsters Inc)
Berryhill has always had the projectable body with his length and athleticism. The production has been the question mark. Started to alleviate some of those concerns when we saw him this weekend. Got on the offensive glass for some put backs and ran the floor hard in transition. If he wants to be a plus defender at the next level he has the tools. Perfect JUCO or upside small college candidate to develop.
Eddie Harris (Bstrong Monsters Inc)
Harris opened eyes with a strong outing on Friday night. Crafty left handed lead guard got to the rim over and over again where he finished with acrobatic layups.
James Ogrodnik James Ogrodnik 6'9" | PF Lincoln-Way Central | 2021 State IL (EBA Ice)
Ogrodnik will be going prep next season, but before he does he is running the EBA Ice this summer. Lincoln Way Central power forward has a high skill level with size and versatility. Handles well in the open floor, rim runs, and can shoot it. Defensively can guard multiple spots and is a solid shot blocker.
Biggie Luster Biggie Luster 6'2" | SG Rockford East | 2021 State IL (Illinois Elite)
Luster brings a silky smooth scoring game to the table at 6’2”. Angular lefty plays taller than his height. Slick ball handler that gets in the lane where he likes floaters and can kick to shooters. Best as a spot up shooter especially from the corners. High level small college player!
Antonio Leavy Antonio Leavy 6'6" | C Rockford Jefferson | 2021 State IL (Illinois Elite)
Big bodied five man that mauls on the offensive glass for second chance points. Light on his feet for how large he is.
Gerald Bonaparte (Illinois Falcons)
The Illinois Falcons point guard played with a lot of tenacity on Friday night showing burst with the ball in his hands and mixed in some threes.
Jeffrey Oakley Jeffrey Oakley 6'5" | SF Corliss | 2021 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars)
Another Corliss product here. Oakley is a bouncy small forward that plays off his athleticism. Showed improvement as a shooter drilling an array of triples throughout the weekend. Upside JUCO prospect.
Jerry Abushanab (Team Rose)
Abushanab will go prep next year at Link Year, but expect him to see D1s poking around as the combo forward has excellent size, length, and athleticism. Threw down several impressive dunks and can handle it well for his size.
Devon Ellis Devon Ellis 6'5" | SF Conant | 2021 State IL (Team NLP)
Power wing from Contant has a strong frame at the small forward position. He puts it on the deck well from the high-post attacking with force on a couple of dribbles. Worth a look at the high small college level.
Mike Erbeck (Illinois Stars)
Erbeck put on a shooting display on Sunday afternoon at the Chi-Town Tip Off. We came away very impressed with the way this shooting guard can knock down shots from deep nailing big shot after big shot for his team.
