Some of this past seasons sophomores had breakout seasons. Let’s remember that a ’breakout season’ can include many different scenarios. It could be that a player was very good and just got noticed, or maybe they improved so much that their game looked totally different. It could be that a player stepped his game a level or more. These are just a few examples of what a ’breakout season’ may entail. With that being said, let’s take a look at some players from the class of 2023 that I thought had a breakout high school season.
Noah Adamczyk Noah Adamczyk 6'0" | PG Bloomfield Hills | 2023 State MI (PG, Bloomfield Hills)
We all knew that Adamczyk is an excellent lead guard. But he’s shown that there’s a lot to his game. He’s been underrated as an all around athlete and he showed a ton of swag to his game during high school season.
Amari Allen Amari Allen 6'2" | PG Hamtramck | 2023 State MI (PG, Hamtramck)
Allen put himself up there with the best lead guards in the state of Michigan. He was a double-double machine all season. Allen showed that he is one of the top perimeter defenders around and he did a nice job setting the tone of the game on that end.
Evan Haroldson Evan Haroldson 6'4" | SF Dexter | 2023 State MI (SF, Dexter)
Haroldson made his presence felt this season. He’s a physically strong player that proved to be more than ready for varsity basketball. Haroldson is a versatile scorer off the wing and doesn’t need to be ball dominant to make an impact.
Sam Lewis Sam Lewis 6'4" | SF Milford | 2023 State MI (SF, Milford)
Lewis had a very solid season for Milford and established himself as an outstanding wing player in the class of 2023. Lewis can finish tough at the rim as well as pull up and bury a jumper. He’s definitely a prospect to watch for college coaches.
Michael Sulaka Michael Sulaka 6'8" | C Warren De La Salle | 2023 State MI (C, Warren De La Salle)
Saluka made sure it was seen how much he’s improved as a player. He was the key piece in the paint for an excellent Warren De La Salle team. Saluka rebounds high and keeps the ball there away from smaller opponents.
Teddy Williams Teddy Williams 6'6" | PF Grand Ledge | 2023 State MI (PF, Grand Ledge)
Williams was rising during showcase season in the fall and it continued during the high school season. He showed the ability to play out-side-in as well as inside-out. Williams is a solid passer on the perimeter and active on the glass in the lane.
