There were quite a few talented teams including the entire Boo Williams organization, and were lots of talented players across the board. Here’s a look at part two of the many standouts throughout the event.
You can check out the stream and every game on court one of the event on the CBG Live Network.
Sincere Moore | 6’4” WG | Rockit Sports/Church Hill Academy ’21
Moore showed that he is one of the top available prospects in the Richmond area if not in the entire state, as he was phenomenal for Rockit Sports on their run to the 17U semifinals. The smooth 6’4” wing showed that he can be an elite isolation scorer, as he has a mix of ball skills and athleticism that makes him a tough matchup in one on one situations. He’s smooth off the bounce and can get to spots, he can make shots from all three levels and he’s a long and versatile defender as well.
Gray Proffitt | 6’5” G | Rockit Sports/Douglas Freeman ’22
While Moore was the top scorer for Rockit, Proffitt is the guy who makes things go for them and was the guy with the ball in his hands late in the games as well. He’s a big and strong 6’5” guard who handles pressure well and has a terrific feel for the game on both ends, and while he isn’t the quickest guy he’s crafty and knows how to get to his spots on the floor, he has great footwork and can pivot and find players when the defense collapses and he finds ways to score the ball when he needs to. He’s a natural leader who just knows how to play the game and gets things done on both ends of the floor.
Maddax Winston-Evans | 6’3” WG | Rockit Sports/Collegiate ’22
Winston-Evans stepped up big in the semifinal matchup against Boo Williams, and showed that he’s a consistent threat from behind the arc throughout the event. At 6’3” he’s a strong wing who plays with a good motor and high IQ, and he’s a deadly threat from deep with a beautiful shot and good confidence when he catches it. He’s getting more and more aggressive every time I watch him, and he should have a breakout summer and senior season at Collegiate next year.
Jayson Harris Jayson Harris 6'6" | PF Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’7” PF | BWSL Meech/Menchville ’21
Harris is one of the top available big men in the state, and he showed that with his steady play throughout the weekend. A big and burly post that is physical in the paint, he’s a multifaceted scorer that has good touch out to the three-point line and can hit the offensive glass and score with his back to the basket as well. He plays with a good motor on both ends, he passes well out of the post and he impacts the game in a number of ways in the paint.
George Beal George Beal 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | BWSL Meech/King’s Fork ’22
I’ve been saying for a while that Beal is one of the more under the radar prospects in the 2022 class, and I think it’s about time some division one programs start to get on him and recruit him. He plays like he’s shot of a cannon and is a long and athletic wing that plays with a super high motor on both ends and is able to impact the game even when things aren’t going his way from a shooting perspective. He’s a high level defender both on and off the basketball, he thrives in transition and can finish at and above the rim when he gets downhill and he lives in the lane and comes at you over and over again.
Harry Alexander | 6’3” WG | BWSL Meech/Norfolk Academy ’22
Alexander was a new name I got after watching this event, as the Norfolk Academy wing played with good confidence and shot the ball extremely well when I watched them. He’s a strong wing that uses his strength on the defensive end to keep ball handlers in front of him, and he showed he can be a good rebounder at his position as well. He really thrived as a floor spacer and shooter though, as he showed good form and consistency from behind the arc and was one of their top scorers throughout the event.
Dallas Kendall Dallas Kendall 6'7" | PF Menchville | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | BWSL Strothers 16U/Menchville ’22
Kendall has been an intriguing young prospect for a while now and from all accounts he’s going to take an extra year in postgrad after he graduates next year which is exactly what he needs. At 6’7” he’s a long and fluid athlete that can play both on the perimeter and in the paint, and he’s comfortable doing some things that guards do including shooting it from deep and putting it on the floor. He needs to work on his strength to be able to bang in the post but he has the ability to guard multiple positions and has a ton of potential moving forward.
