With teams ranging from the Carolinas to Virginia to Maryland and more, there was plenty of talent for every level and in every classification as well.
All of the games on court one from Friday through Sunday were streamed on the CBG Live Network and can be found here.
We start with part one of the standouts, taking a look at some of the top 2021 talent in the building.
Terrence Johnson | 6’5” WF | Defenders (NC) 2021
Johnson was a former Mississippi Valley State commit who was a standout at Liberty Heights under coach Mike Wright and should be pretty highly touted by division one schools and JUCOs as he could blow up after a year going that route as well. He’s a freak athlete who can play above the rim both in transition and in the half court, he uses his length and athleticism on the defensive end and he plays with a great motor as well. He has tons of room to improve moving forward and can flat out make plays others can’t.
Bryson Kittrell | 6’0” CG | BWSL Marsh 2021
Kittrell has had a great high school career starting at Matoaca in Virginia then spending his last two seasons at Southern Maryland Christian, and he’s a guy who can both run a team and be the go-to scorer at the same time. He’s highly skilled with the ability to play on and off the basketball, he has deep range both off the catch and off the bounce and he has terrific footwork when attacking the rim to get open and make shots from multiple levels. He has great feel for the game and brings it on both ends, and he steps up in the biggest of games usually.
Gabe Spinelli | 6’2” PG | Big Shots WV Elite 2021
The son of former BC assistant Scott Spinelli, Gabe is a very talented and athletic guard who is dynamic with the ball in his hands and can create for himself and others easily. He has a great handle and is shifty off the bounce, he can create space easily and he’s an explosive finisher that allows him to get up and finish at and above the rim when challenging taller defenders. He can make shots from deep and has a great feel for the game and brings a competitive chip on both ends.
Landon Swingler | 6’3” WF | VABA Bruins 2021
The recent Eastern Mennonite commit played with the VABA Bruins and was a big reason they were able to win the 17U Orange championship, upsetting BWSL’s 16U EYBL team at the buzzer. He looks like a steal for the Royals, as he is a long and athletic wing with a solid overall skillset and the ability to make plays on both ends of the floor. He can play above the rim, he guards multiple positions and he can stretch the floor consistently as well.
Sihle Mtethwa | 6’0” PG | VABA Bruins 2021
Mtethwa was named MVP of the 17U division, as he was the rock and the most steady guy for the experienced Bruins throughout the weekend. He handled the ball extremely well and got them into their sets, he lived in the lane where he made plays for others and he was a knock down shooter throughout the event and scored it whenever they needed him to. He’s an available guard who is both high academic and a high character guy who works extremely hard and would make a school very happy with both his mindset and ability on the court.
Larry Howell Larry Howell 6'4" | SF Orangeburg-Wilkinson | 2021 State SC | 6’4” WF | Big Shots WV Elite 2021
Howell was one of the most athletic and productive available guys in the event, as the South Carolina based wing showed great versatility and a high motor throughout the event. He has great physical and athletic traits, and he showed the ability to defend multiple positions and rebound at a great rate for his position. He showed he can play on and off the basketball, he’s a great finisher at the rim and he showed that he can make shots from multiple levels as well.
