With teams ranging from the Carolinas to Virginia to Maryland and more, there was plenty of talent for every level and in every classification as well.
All of the games on court one from Friday through Sunday were streamed on the CBG Live Network and can be found here.
We start with part two of the standouts, taking a look at some of the top 2022 and 2023 talent in the building.
Jaden Daughtry Jaden Daughtry 6'6" | SF Benedictine College Prep | 2022 VA | 6’5” WF | BWSL Marsh 2022
Daughtry continues to dominate in the spring so far as he was one of the top scorers in the entire event, and he’s set to have all of the mid major programs in the area that aren’t already on him all over him. A high motor and athletic wing, Daughtry really thrives when he’s able to get downhill where he can attack either way and uses his upper body strength to finish through contact. He’s a good rebounder on both ends and has a good amount of versatility, and he is a walking mismatch that produces regularly.
Roman Barshow Roman Barshow 6'6" | PF Steward School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | Big Shots Elite WV 2022
Barshow is a guy that many people will get to know here soon as he has an intriguing mix of size, athleticism and skill that makes him very tough to match up with. At 6’7”, he’s a perimeter oriented forward that can make shots from deep, attack closeouts and get to the rim and can post smaller guys in the paint as well. He plays with a good motor and has a good feel, and he’s a guy that can thrive in the right system when he gets opportunities to showcase his skills.
Carmelo Pacheco Carmelo Pacheco 6'4" | SG Spotswood | 2022 State VA | 6’5” WG/WF | VA Blaze 2022
Pacheco continues to show why he’s one of the most undervalued and unknown guys in the state of Virginia, and if you’re a college basketball coach of the scholarship level this Blaze team is one to keep an eye on with Pacheco being the leader of a very talented team. At 6’5”, Pacheco is a highly skilled and smart wing that is a big time shot maker and a very smart player on both ends. He’s a prototypical three and d guy that is a lights out shooter from deep that is consistent, and he’s always in the right place at the right time to make winning plays for his team.
Trey Gillenwater Trey Gillenwater 6'2" | PG Eastern Mennonite | 2022 State VA | 6’2” PG | VA Blaze 2022
Gillenwater is another talented and smart player for Blaze, as he’s a floor general that brings a mix of toughness, skill set and leadership that makes him very important to his team’s success. He’s a natural leader that knows where everyone should be and how to make them successful on the floor. He lives in the paint and makes great reads, he can knock down shots consistently from multiple levels and he’s very savvy in the way he plays the game.
AJ Wills | 5’10” PG | Boo Williams 17U 2023
Wills is set to blow up in the 2023 class, as the way he makes an impact and is able to be productive in so many ways is very impressive. He’s always under control and is lightning quick off the bounce, he gets to wherever he wants to on the court and makes the right play while doing so and the fact that he’s now shooting the basketball at a high clip makes him very tough to guard despite his size. He brings a competitive chip and toughness to his game, and he can flat out cook with the best of them once he gets it going.
Etienne Strothers Etienne Strothers 6'1" | PG Menchville | 2023 State VA | 5’11” PG | BWSL 16U 2023
Strothers continues to show that he’s one of the best guards in a talented 2023 class, and no one’s stock is rising as fast as him right now and it’s easy to see why. Strothers is a complete guard who has a mix of athleticism, skill set and feel that makes him very tough to stop, and the fact that he continues to grow almost every time I see him is obviously a good sign as well. He has a tight handle and can get to his spots on the floor to create for himself or others, he’s a very good shooter from deep and defensively he’s tough both on and off the ball and regularly makes plays as far as deflections and stepping in to take charges.
Justin Boggs | 6’1” CG | BWSL 16U 2023
Boggs is another stock rising guard that’s a part of a very talented BWSL 16U backcourt, and he’s the one who can get hot and take over games with his shot making ability and more. A high IQ combo from St. Andrew’s (Maryland), Boggs is an exceptional shooter with deep range and a quick release, and he is an athletic finisher around the basket and a two way impact guy with his lateral quickness. He can play on and off the basketball and brings good energy and microwave scoring ability to his team as well.
Josh Sime Josh Sime 6'8" | PF Western Albemarle | 2023 State VA | 6’7” PF | BWSL 16U 2023
Sime continues to show improvement and the ability to play against the best of the best, and it shouldn’t be long before he has division one schools starting to recruit him. The 6’8” big out of Charlottesville is a blue collar type of post player that has good strength and fundamentals in the post, he’s an athletic finisher on the block and he is an excellent shot blocker and plays with a good motor on both ends. He’s showing improvement on his touch out to the three-point line, and he’s shown he’s a good passer both in the post and on the perimeter as well.
Samuel Brannen Samuel Brannen 6'0" | CG King’s Fork | 2023 State VA | 6’0” CG | BWSL 16U 2023
Brannen showed throughout the event that he’s the x-factor for this Boo team, as he’s a versatile guard with a great IQ and skill set and a toughness about him that makes him impactful in a number of ways. He’s the perfect microwave guy off the bench that can shoot it from deep, create shots off the bounce and is all over the place on the defensive end as well. He’s a very smart and fundamental guard on both ends, and he’s always around the ball making winning plays for his team.
