Continue ReadingBig Shots returned to the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton for a star studded event that featured some of the top teams from up and down the east coast. With teams ranging from the Carolinas to Virginia to Maryland and more, there was plenty of talent for every level and in every classification as well.
All of the games on court one from Friday through Sunday were streamed on the CBG Live Network and can be found here.
We start with part two of the standouts, taking a look at some of the top 2022 talent in the building.
Jayden Epps Jayden Epps 6'1" | CG Combine Academy | 2022 State #41 Nation NC | 6’1” PG | Team Loaded VA 2022
The Providence commit showed exactly what he can bring to the table with his scoring ability and toughness, as he was the catalyst with a talented group and showed what he will bring to the next level. He can create shots for himself and others off the bounce, he has deep range off the catch and he brings it on both ends of the floor. Surrounded by the talent he has he showed more of a willingness to make plays for others and displayed much better shot selection than I’ve seen in the past, and that bolds well for him moving forward.
Donald Hand Jr. | 6’5” CG | Team Loaded VA 2022
Hand is arguably the most underrated prospect in the country as he’s usually just around 100 in the national rankings, and once he’s seen by more national scouts he’ll likely take a jump in that range with his size and scoring ability. At 6’5”, Hand is a natural scorer on the basketball as he can get to spots with ease and create space to make tough shots from multiple levels, and he has become more explosive and shifty around the basket as a finisher. He can flat out fill it up in bunches and can make contested shots over defenders, and he’s able to play both guard positions and has great feel on both ends of the floor.
Tyler Nickel Tyler Nickel 6'8" | SF East Rockingham | 2022 State #85 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | Team Loaded VA 2022
One of the top wings on the east coast, Nickel showed his tough shot making and three level scoring ability throughout the event. At 6’7”, Nickel’s has prototypical size on the wing and is a knock down shooter off the catch from deep, but he’s also able to get to spots off the bounce and make tough shots over top of defenders and is a big time finisher at and above the rim. He has good feel and is an underrated passer, and he should continue to build on his already impressive offer list moving forward.
Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV | 5’10” PG | Team Loaded VA 2022
Giles continues to show that he may be the most under recruited and under appreciated player in VA. Many are going to question him due to his height, but he continues to show that he has all of the intangibles that a small guard needs to be successful as he is lightning quick, tough as nails and can flat out fill it up in so many different ways. He can shoot from anywhere past half court, he is a tough on ball defender and he’s able to change speeds and directions well to get open and has a lightning quick release allowing him to make tough shots.
Judah Egbo | 6’8” PF | Team Loaded VA 2022
Egbo is a very intriguing prospect who went to Oak Hill this past year to develop, and it seems to be working as he looked like he has improved in almost every aspect of his game. He’s always been a high motor and pretty mobile guy but he looks like his timing and athleticism has gotten better, his hands have improved immensely and he showed touch out to the free throw line as well. He’s a prototypical rim runner and rim protector that has a budding skill set and is a guy division one schools should be all over moving forward.
Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson 6'4" | NA lbs | SG Grissom | 2022 State #NA Nation AL | 6’4” WF | Boo Williams EYBL 2022
“Butta,” as he’s known by teammates and friends for his smooth game, continues to show that he’s an elite shot maker and scorer that will likely lead this BWSL team in scoring throughout the summer. The 6’4” wing isn’t the most explosive guy but he’s highly skilled both on and off the ball as a shot maker, as he can create for himself and work off the ball to get open and he’s a consistent shooter that they go to in crunch time situations. He holds a slew of mid major offers now but they way he’s shown improvement in his game and his ability to both score it and make others better, there’s going to be plenty more coming his way.
Kanye Clary Kanye Clary 5'11" | PG Massanutten | 2022 State VA | 5’11” PG | Boo Williams EYBL 2022
Clary is the straw that makes the BWSL team go as he’s a playmaking point guard that can get in the lane at will and can make defenders look silly with his ability to change speeds and directions and with his tight handle as well. He’s a guy who is just a wizard with the ball, and he’s excellent in the pick-and-roll as he can read the defense well and has all of the floaters and pull-ups to negate his size in the paint. He continues to improve as a shooter and he’s a tough nosed leader who makes winning plays regularly.
Jerome Beya Jerome Beya 6'9" | C Teays Valley Christian Prep | 2022 KS | 6’8” PF | Boo Williams EYBL 2022
Beya is the perfect prototype as a new school big man as he is a natural rim runner and rim protector that doesn’t need the ball much to be productive in the game. He isn’t a guy who is overly skilled or one you throw it into multiple times, but he’s an uber athletic guy for his size that finishes above the rim and alters the game just by his presence in the post. He still has tons of room to grow on the offensive end, but he’s capable of making an impact at any level with his athleticism and high motor already.
