All-Junior Team: South Florida
In this article:
The junior (2022) class is the most elite group in South Florida. All you have to do is look around Fort Lauderdale for evidence. Two area teams won state championships and are ranked in the top 20 nationally. Furthermore, they feature numerous D-1 players.
Let’s look at my picks…
Amen Thompson and Ausar Thompson – Pine Crest
The twins helped Pine Crest to a 21-1 overall record and a 4A state championship. They combined to average 43.1 points, 15.6 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 5.7 steals and 2.6 blocks per game. Keep in mind that Pine Crest didn’t have a true frontcourt presence this season. They were doing a lot of the work alongside 2021 guard Eros Carpio Eros Carpio 6'4" | CG Pine Crest | 2021 State FL . Both players are 4-star recruits with numerous D-1 offers. I think they are the two best players in South Florida. Watch them play and you might agree.
Taylor Hendricks Taylor Hendricks 6'9" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #124 Nation FL – Calvary Christian Academy
Did you know Taylor Hendricks Taylor Hendricks 6'9" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #124 Nation FL is the third highest rated recruit in the history of UCF basketball? Well now you do! The 3-star commit averaged 14.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game for the 3A state champions. Moreover, he scored 20 points or more in five games on 69 percent shooting from the field. He choose the Knights over offers from Florida, Florida State, Iona, Iowa State, Memphis, Miami, LSU, Penn, USF, Yale, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
Jimel Lane Jimel Lane 6'7" | PF Palmetto | 2022 State FL – Mater Academy Charter
Lane led Mater Academy Charter to a 21-3 overall record and an appearance in the Class 6A championship game. The Lions’ season is impressive when you consider they lost 2022 Malik Reneau Malik Reneau 6'7" | PF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #33 Nation FL to Montverde Academy after last season. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 19.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season. Moreover, Lane scored 20 or more points in 12 games. He should be hungry to deliver on a state championship next year. He holds an offer (per twitter) from Barry, Penn State and Stetson University.
Gregg Glenn Gregg Glenn 6'7" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #161 Nation FL – Calvary Christian Academy
Glenn’s South Florida spotlight seems as high as any prospect in South Florida. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 13.8 points and 6.6 rebounds on 47 percent shooting from the field. Moreover, he recorded 42 steals. Against No.1 ranked Montverde Academy, Glenn had 16 points, four rebounds, five steals and two blocks. The 4-star recruit helped Calvary Christian to a 3A state championship. Michigan, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida and Florida State have all offered him. I think his senior season will be key in his recruitment. Calvary Christian Academy has hopes of playing in the Geico National Tournament with the addition of 2022 Ben Middlebrooks.
