Brantley High, Georgiana High, McKenzie High, Red Level and J.F. Shields are the teams in Area 3. The players listed below are the top guards in the area. Both point guard and shooting guard will be assessed within the guard position.
Morrel Edwards | 5-10 SG | Brantley High School
Edwards is a phenomenal finisher on the glass. He can also hit a solid mid-range jumper and has a nice shooting form from beyond the arc. In his junior season in 2020-21, Edwards displayed a great level of court vision at both ends of the floor. Entering his senior year, the guard could climb up the rankings and earn offers.
On defense, Edwards is a player that can force the ball handler into turnovers and grab a steal and run the fast break with ease.
Patrick Boyd | 5-8 G | Georgiana High School
Boyd displays poise and strength in his game. While he may only be 5’8″, the junior can force his way to the rim over taller defenders. On the perimeter, the guard is an exceptional shooter that doesn’t always take the first shot. He can find the open teammate while also finding a way to score himself.
Defensively, Boyd is a great defender that can force the opposing ball handler into an unwanted shot selection. He is also great at grabbing rebounds on missed shots.
Demarcus Johnson | 6-1 G | Red Level High School
He may only be a rising Junior, but Johnson has tremendous upside to his game. His Sophomore season was stellar, and Red Level will only get better with him on the court.
In 2020, Johnson was a key contributor to Red Level’s success on the court. The team finished 8-14, but the star guard showed promise of what is to come. He is a terrific finisher at the rim but also has a nice shot selection on the offensive end. On defense, Johnson can go step for step with the ball handler and force an unwanted shot or a turnover.
Tucker Kilcrease | 6-1 G | Brantley High School
Another Brantley star, Kilcrease is a great duo piece to Edwards. Kilcrease enters his senior year in 2021, but has accomplished a lot on the court.
He has set himself apart as one of the best shooters in Area 3 with his dynamic shot selections. His film doesn’t lie, Kilcrease has a great drive to the basket and can run the pick and roll in stunning fashion.
Kendarius Walker | 5-11 G | J.F. Shields High School
Walker graduates in 2022, but has one more year of showcasing his talents. At 5’11”, he displays a tough work ethic on the court, When he has the ball, Walker can hit a spot up jumper from anywhere on the floor. But when it comes to defense, that is where Walker tends to shine. He is a phenomenal defender that can trap the ball handler and not give up an easy look from anywhere on the court.
While his name isn’t well known, Walker will try to change that when the 2021-22 season begins.
