Here are the top five guards in Area 1 of Class 1A in South Alabama.
Myles Dixon | 5-10 G | McIntosh HS
Dixon is a solid ball handler that can score from anywhere on the court. His great court vision gives him the ability to crossover defenders and get to the basket. Dixon’s offensive game is impressive. The guard will enter his senior season in 2021-22 and looks to increase his stock.
Defensively, Dixon is a phenomenal defender that can go step for step with the opposing ball handler. He is excellent at forcing turnovers and can make the opposing team change their pace on offense.
Davonta Sullivan | 5-6 G | McIntosh HS
Sullivan is the perfect duo player to Dixon. The 5’6″ guard is the smallest player on the team in terms of height. But that doesn’t stop him from making plays on both ends of the floor.
The incoming senior is excellent in finishing at the rim on open looks in the paint. He can also hit a solid mid-range jumper and has a strong shot from beyond the arc.
Jaylen Manuel | 5-10 G | Millry HS
Manuel is an excellent player on both ends of the court.
From an offensive standpoint, he can finish any open look at the rim but thrives in finding an open teammate if he is contested.
On defense, Manuel has a strong upside and can trap opposing ball handlers and force turnovers from anywhere on the court.
Jquan Stewart | 5-6 G | Millry HS
Stewart is smaller given his 5’6″ frame, but excels at dashing past defenders for an easy basket.
Defensively, he has quick feet and can force ball handlers into unwanted situations on the court. Stewart is great at poking the ball away and excels on the fast break.
Darryl Loper Jr | 6-1 G | Fruitdale HS
Loper is an exceptional player on the basketball court. He possesses great skills that attribute to both ends of the floor.
On offense, he can take the game into his own hands and get a bucket in crucial situations. The guard has a great shot selection from anywhere on the court.
But on defense, Loper Jr excels at forcing the ball away from the man he is guarding. When his man has the ball, Loper Jr is there stride for stride to force an unnecessary shot.
