I have seen countless teams win on a tip-in or make a shot after an offensive rebound that proves detrimental. Learning to box out and grab a rebound takes discipline and heart, both of which were displayed nicely across the valley in the 5A SIC. This list will look at the top rebounders based on their conference rebounds per game and some players had better averages than others due to the number of games played during this season. Continue reading for a look at the top rebounders in the 5A SIC this season.
Jack Payne Jack Payne 6'5" | SF Boise | 2022 State ID , Boise: Payne averaged 9.1 boards per game this season and nearly averaged a double-double as a result. He proved that he can rebound on both ends of the floor and routinely grabbed offensive and defensive rebounds. Jack is a great fundamental player that knows how and where the ball will bounce once it leaves the rim and his knack for grabbing a board led him to the top of the leaderboard.
Brody Rowbury Brody Rowbury 6'11" | C Meridian | 2021 State ID , Meridian: Brody averaged 8.9 rebounds per game this season and probably could have had more had he stayed out of foul trouble and gone after every board. Yes, Brody is tall and naturally grabs some rebounds due to this, but he is also skilled at reading the way the ball will come off of the rim and he finds himself in the right place at the right time in a lot of instances. Rowbury also led the league in offensive rebounds this season and is a tough box-out for any opponent.
Lukas Broadsword Lukas Broadsword 6'6" | PF Centennial | 2021 State ID , Centennial: Lukas averaged 8 rebounds per game this season for the Centennial Patriots, even despite not making the district tournament. Lukas has a great idea of how the ball will bounce off of the rim after a missed shot and he had a lot of tip-in points off of offensive rebounds this season. Broadsword showed a lot of determination while grabbing some boards this season and also proved his will and desire to rebound in traffic.
