This summer will be an important one for each kid on a traveling AAU program.
For the kids, especially the ones who weren’t able to have a season due to COVID-19, this summer could definitely boost their recruitment.
Here are four players that could use a productive summer.
Chip Brunt Chip Brunt 6'4" | PG Whitehaven | 2023 GA , Whitehaven: The 6-3 combo guard is itching to have a productive summer and get some college looks. Brunt had a productive 23 points for Team Rutledge in a 71-63 win over Maverick Elite in a pre-summer league contest. The upcoming senior ran the floor well and finished at the rim in transition. Brunt is at his best when he’s able to get out in transition. He can make shots from the perimeter and take his defender off the dribble. Brunt has the makeup of college basketball player. He just needs to tackle the summer with an edge, so he can get an offer or two.
Kyler Dandridge Kyler Dandridge 6'3" | SG White Station | 2022 State TN , White Station: Dandridge is another kid with talent. He’s a 6-2 combo guard that’s shifty with athleticism. Dandridge wasn’t able to have a junior season since Shelby County schools weren’t able to play, so he will need to have a productive summer. Dandridge has nice handles, plays solid defense and can take his defender off the dribble, but he needs to improve on his shooting. Once Dandridge can made shots consistently from 17-feet out, he will be a better player and sought after even more by college coaches.
E.J. Smith, Memphis East: Smith is another gifted guard, with smooth ball handles. Smith had 16 points against Maverick Elite. The sophomore can make shots from the perimeter and has expanded his offensive game with a soft floater. Smith can make step back 3s. The 6-1 guard has two summers left to impress college coaches, but he needs to strike this summer. Smith can do a lot of good things offensively. Now, it’s time to see how well he can defend.
A.J. Dilworth, Lausanne: Dilworth is the only one on this list to have a season. The sophomore guard was an Division II-A All-League guard for the Lynx. Dilworth was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league last season. Against Maverick Elite, the 5-9 guard played defense full court. During the summer, Dilworth will need to show he can make shots off the dribble. Expanding his game will help Lausanne during the 2021-22 season.
