A 5-11 lead guard who values the ball (3.6 assists against 1.3 turnovers a game), Curren can get to the rim and score or get others involved. He needs to improve his perimeter shot (28.9%), but he’s a good free-throw shooter and solid finisher around the rim.
Jackson Severson Jackson Severson 5'11" | PG Linn-Mar | 2023 State IA | Linn-Mar | Kingdom Hoops (80)
A smart lead guard who can make an impact both on-and-off the ball on the defensive end, Severson is at his best when he’s playing downhill and attacking the rim offensively.
Jackson Manning Jackson Manning 5'11" | PG Van Buren County | 2023 State IA | Van Buren County (83)
A 6-0 guard, Manning is a scoring machine who ranked among the state’s leaders at 20.5 points a game. He does a great job using his quick hands on the defensive end to turn defense into easy offense, and he’s a strong ball-handler with a good first step that he uses to blow by defenders in the halfcourt.
Carter Houser Carter Houser 5'10" | PG Seymour | 2023 State IA | Seymour (87)
Like Manning, Houser is a small-school scoring machine who averaged 16.5 points a game. He does a majority of his damage by getting to the bucket.
Carson Fuegen Carson Fuegen 5'9" | PG Easton Valley | 2023 State IA | Easton Valley (89)
Fuegen is small (listed at 5-9), but he’s quick with the ball in his hands and is an excellent decision-maker who sees the floor really well. He dished out 6.4 assists a game for the River Hawks and also swiped 3.5 steals. He’s a menace on the defensive end with his quick feet and hands.
Tracy Hayslett Tracy Hayslett 5'9" | PG Davenport Central | 2023 State IA | Davenport Central (91)
A 5-9 guard, Hayslett shot the ball really well as a sophomore, albeit on limited sample size, going 14-24 from behind the arc. He can fill it up and he can also get others involved, leading the Blue Devils with 2.4 assists a game.
JJ Lane JJ Lane 5'9" | PG Fairfield | 2023 State IA | Fairfield (97)
Lane pairs well with fellow sophomore Max Weaton Max Weaton 6'6" | PF Fairfield | 2023 State IA for the Trojans, a solid lead guard who sees the floor well and can get others involved. He’s not afraid to attack the rim and he showed a propensity for putting the ball in the bucket against bigger defenders. He’s small (listed 5-9) and not a great shooter yet (31.5 3P%), but there is some potential here.
Ryan Walters Ryan Walters 6'0" | PG South Hardin | 2023 State IA | South Hardin (98)
I tuned in to the Tigers early in the season to check out the talented group of seniors they had, but it was the 6-0 Walters who stood out the most in my viewing. He’s a good ball-handler and passer who sees the floor well, and he isn’t afraid to attack the rim and go up against bigger defenders. He’s a fearless guard who doesn’t back down, and if he can improve his perimeter stroke, he could be a solid small college guard down the line.
