With as much talent that is in the class it was a difficult list to compose, but we got it. Here we take a look at the newest Top-5.
Langston Reynolds Langston Reynolds 6'4" | CG Colorado Prep | 2022 State #172 Nation CO – Colorado Prep
Reynolds is the most dangerous player that we have in the state, and the way that he impacts the game is what stands out most. With freedom and the ability to play multiple positions, Reynolds is a versatile guard that has excellent court awareness, attacks off of the dribble with easy finishes at and above the rim with either hand. Reynolds is a shifty guard and an explosive athlete that scores in bunches but also sees the floor well. He’s a willing passer that is best when he is the primary ball-handler, and he proved that in the Grind Session this season as one of the top standouts in the league. Reynolds is a gritty guard that is locked in on both ends of the floor, is athletically gifted, and is starting to see it all come together. He plays with a chip on his shoulder, cannot be denied getting to his spots, and has no issue going up and dunking through a defender if he has to. Reynold’s jumper is improving, his handle is tight and he understands that both frees him up. He’s a player that uses his strength, size, and athleticism to the best of his ability. He is the No. 1 player in the class heading into his senior season that holds multiple DI offers to his name and in Prephoops.com’s Top-200 players in the country that was released came in at No. 161. overall nationally.
Zach Keller Zach Keller 6'9" | PF ThunderRidge | 2022 State #81 Nation CO – Thunder Ridge
There are not many players in the state that has the upside that Keller has and when it all comes together, he will be an elite player. In his junior year, he was able to help his team win a state championship. Keller has an incredible ceiling and so much untapped potential, but when he makes up his mind to dominate, there are not many things that anybody in the state can do with him. Keller typically plays out of state for grassroots, but with so many changes to the world, he played this past summer in-state and was dominant when he was healthy. Keller put the state on notice as he had rim rocking dunks, was aggressive on the boards, and also competes hard against whoever is in front of him. It was much more of the same for the high school season as he continued to get healthy as he has his moments. Keller battled on the boards, had a few down low flushes, and improved as a mid-range shooter that could space the floor. Keller is picking up tons of DI interest after a state championship run and great start to the summer with Utah Prospects. He is a two-way standout and is only getting better as he continues to make that jump. He comes in at No. 180 in Prep Hoops Top-200 players in the class nationally.
Joel Speckman Joel Speckman 6'8" | PF Chaparral | 2022 State CO – Chaparral
Speckman is a gifted big man that’s impactful on both ends of the floor and helped pick up a few more wins on his production alone. The 6’7 big man is a talented forward who can create off of the dribble, which makes it difficult for opposing big men to keep up with him, but he is too big and strong for guards, which creates mismatches often. He showed up in every game and gave his team a chance to win as the kid loves to win. In his junior year, he saw his game elevate a bit more as he put up 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. Speckman grabbed boards and pushed the pace, opened up the floor with his outside shooting, and created down low on the block. Speckman is a fierce competitor that steps up in big games. He can alter a game with his activity and relentless motor and can fit in any situation. He is starting to see get more Division I interest with already a couple of offers in hand and is a player that is looking towards a huge senior season.
Brock Wisne Brock Wisne 6'9" | PF Colorado Prep | 2022 State CO – Colorado Prep
Wisne is a nightmare matchup for opposing teams as he can score from all three levels and also, at 6’7, has the size to create mismatches all over on the floor. Wisne is one of the most balanced players in the state and made the switch to Colorado Prep to dominate on the Grind Session. Wisne turned heads along the way as a physically gifted athlete with a high upside, and when he is on, there are not many answers for him. Wisne soars for rebounds, can create off the dribble, and plays well off the ball. He has a deadly mid-range jumper, a post-up game where he creates in iso situations and battles no matter who is in front of him. Wisne is a versatile scorer and defender but is starting to see the floor a bit more. He fit right in at Colorado Prep and is a player that will likely be playing at the Division I level after his senior season.
Sam Howery Sam Howery 6'1" | PG St. Mary’s | 2022 State CO – St. Mary
Howery moves into the Top-5 after a stellar junior season. The crafty point guard put up some video game-like numbers and led his team all the way to the state championship. St. Mary was the No.1 team in 3A this season as they went undefeated during the regular season, and it was thanks to their point guard. Howery pushed the pace, knocked down 3-pointers and attacked the rim, and gets everyone involved. He put up an incredible 21.4 points, 10.2 assists (No. 1 in the nation according to Maxpreps), 7.4 rebounds, and 4.5 steals a game to go along with it. Howery is the ultimate competitor that steps up in big games and affects the game on both ends of the floor. He is an unselfish leader that gets other players to buy in and is consistent as a two-way weapon that brings it nightly. He has had an excellent start to the grassroots season and is a player that will continue to crush it, I’m sure. He comes in at the No.1 pg in the class.
