With as much talent in the class, it was difficult to compose, but we got it. Here we take a look at some prospects that lit up the scoreboards consistently.
Elliott Cravitz Elliott Cravitz 6'3" | PG Colorado Academy | 2022 State CO – Colorado Academy
Cravitz is a player that lit up the scoreboard a season ago, and it is because he is one of the quickest guards in the state, and he is looking to score. Cravitz is a volume shooter with a quick first step and has a deadly 3-pointer. He averaged a team-high 17-9 points a game in his junior year while his team went undefeated in league play and 10-2 on the season. Cravitz pushes the pace, is willing to take tough shots, and creates for himself off of the dribble. He can play both on and off the ball but is best when he has the freedom to go and make things happen, and he did what he wanted in 3A this year. He’s a player that will have high expectations heading into his senior season and comes in as a Top-50 player in the class.
Jordan Reed Jordan Reed 6'5" | CG Manual | 2022 State CO – Manual
Reed was a stat stuffer on a talented Manual team that just refuses to lose. This was thought to be a rebuilding year for the ThunderBolts, but with the offensive explosion to the 6’2 combo-guard Reed, they continued to pick up wins and make a deep playoff push. Reed was sensational this season and even better down the home stretch. Reed averaged a jaw-dropping 18.8 points and 6.6 rebounds a game, but what stands out most is even with the green light and ability to score with ease, he made it a point to get teammates involved and going early on. Reed led the conference in assists and was one of the top passers in 3A as a whole with 7.1 assists a game. Reed had two triple-doubles this season, made it a point to get all involved but still had to take over and lead the way. Reed is the No. 33 player in the class, and we’re eager to see what he adds to his game this upcoming season.
Amari Westmoreland-Vendiola Amari Westmoreland-Vendiola 6'4" | SF Sierra | 2022 CO – Sierra
Amari was the lone bright spot for the Stallions this season as he was the only player to average double figures on the season and it was not close around him. The 6’3 do-it-all wing was the focal point for opposing teams to slow down to get by Sierra, and he still managed to put up 16.7 points a game. He had a few games where he exploded offensively and went for 30, and others where he had a calm 20+. He knows how to put the ball in the basket and scored in different ways. Amari is also a rebounder that is a two-way standout when locked in on both ends of the floor. He began the season with a few double-doubles, pushes the pace when he gets it, and is a tough cover—nightmare matchup and a player that we hope to see a bit of this summer.
Tayt Chacon Tayt Chacon 6'4" | PF University | 2022 State CO – University
Chacon is a bucket at the 3A level, and opposing teams have a tough time trying to corral him. He has excellent size at 6’5, the right pedigree as a multi-sport standout, and brings that tenacity to the court, where he has been annihilating the competition. Chacon has already surpassed the 1,000 points scored barrier in only three seasons and currently sits at 1,156 points total. He’s a three-year starter with a high upside, which has been on display since he entered high school. He scores both inside and out, goes inside and bangs, and also is a force on the boards that does not give up much defensively. In his junior year, he averaged 22.6 points, and 5.6 rebounds a game, also picked up 2.1 steals a game and consistently scored 25 or more points. He’s a big play waiting to happen, and the competition had to feel his wrath. He comes in at the No. 8 PF in the class and gets to prove himself against better competition with Colorado Chaos for grassroots. We’re excited to see him get going.
Duke Benson Duke Benson 6'3" | SF Kent Denver | 2022 State CO – Kent Denver
Duke Buckets!!
Duke is a player that I gravitated towards last season as he took over in games that I saw him in, and he refuses to be outworked on the floor. He battles on every possession, is not afraid to put his body on the line, and plays so hard that mistakes mean good plays are happening. What Duke can do is score, and he did plenty of it. Duke filled up the state sheet a season ago and led the Sun Devils to an 11-5 record. He is not to be outworked, is a force on the boards, and takes on whatever challenge is given to him. Benson averaged 19.7 points and 8.8 rebounds a game as a junior and will go into his senior season ready to finish up exactly where he left off. Benson is one of my favorite watches in the state and comes in at the No. 64 player in the class.
