Current: 9 Previous: 16
Brocaille made the leap into the top ten this season after a terrific junior season, in which he nearly doubled his points per game from the previous year. His offensive game matured, learning to score efficiently from all three levels. He never settles or forces a tough shot, and is more than willing to keep the ball moving on to the next guy. His foul-drawing was the biggest factor in his improved efficiency. He shot 81% at the line on 5 attempts per game.
William Kyle William Kyle 6'8" | C Bellevue West | 2022 State NE | C | Bellevue West
Current: 10 Previous: 19
Kyle had maybe the biggest improvement from sophomore to junior year of any player in the class. After not playing all that much for Bellevue West or Team Factory last summer, he has blossomed into one of the best rim protectors in Nebraska. His block total this season ranked second in Class A, and his man-to-man defense was excellent. He really flashed against a talented Waukee (IA) team earlier this year, where he played great defense on 5-star Omaha Biliew. A very efficient finisher in the paint as well. The only thing holding him back right now is the free-throw shooting.
Ben Hunzeker Ben Hunzeker 6'3" | SG Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State NE | SG | Lincoln Southwest
“Ultimate glue-guy” is how Hunzeker is described amongst the Prep Hoops Nebraska staff. He identifies what is needed on the court, whether it’s rebounding, shooting, or defense. He’s a capable passer too, with good vision and play recognition. He took on more of a playmaking role for Lincoln Southwest as a junior, and was very successful.
Mason Strong Mason Strong 5'11" | PG Omaha North | 2022 State NE | CG | Omaha North
Current: 19 Previous: 73
Strong is a scalable player, meaning he can be put in a variety of contexts while still being impactful. He’s an excellent ball-handler with some shiftiness. Those two skills make him one of the better shot-creators in the state. He’s great with the ball in hands, but just as impactful off ball. Cutting, shooting off movement, and good rebounding despite being 5’10″ make him a threat anywhere on the court at any given time.
Jacob Sjuts Jacob Sjuts 6'5" | SF Humphrey | 2022 State NE | SF | Humphrey
Current: 20 Previous: 37
Sjuts has great footwork in the post which he uses to get to his spots consistently. He won’t be crossing anyone up, but his handle is reliable and effective. Around the rim, he has great touch and can finish with either hand. He stretches the floor pretty well, a career 33% from deep.
Evan Inselman Evan Inselman 6'6" | SF Bellevue West | 2022 State NE | SF | Bellevue West
Current: 25 Previous: 34
Inselman carved out a role on a deep Bellevue West team as a spot-up shooter and aggressive rebounder. After a miss, he was always around the ball, flying in from the perimeter. Lots of times he got the rebound, and the rest of the time he made the opposition work hard for the possession. He punished the defense when they helped onto the ball-handler with his quick, high shooting release.
Kuon Kuon Kuon Kuon 6'8" | SF Mount Michael | 2022 State NE | SF | Mount Michael
Current: 26 Previous: 40
The Mount Michael and Nebraska Supreme wing has loads of potential. Projecting forward, he can be a high-level defender on both the perimeter and inside as a rim protector and shot-blocker. He is comfortable taking three-pointers, although he doesn’t hit quite enough of them yet to be considered “good” in that area. The scaffolding is there for him to build on though as he refines his game.
Brandon Orgilbold Brandon Orgilbold 6'1" | SG Elkhorn North | 2022 State NE | CG | Elkhorn North
Current: 32 Previous: 65
In Elkhorn North’s inaugural season, Orgilbold was their engine. Acting as the point guard, he got two feet in the paint with regularity. He varies his strides and gets into the defender’s body to hinder their ability to contest. Without the ball, he routinely set his defender up in the corner for the backcut. And whether he’s rebounding, or attempting a shot at the rim, he can hang in the air and adjust as needed to secure the rebound or find an opening for the shot.
Logan Wilson Logan Wilson 6'5" | PF Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE | PF | Omaha Westside
Most of the offensive load fell on the Westside guards, and Wilson’s opportunities were limited. Instead, he gave the team excellent rim protection and shot-blocking. He certainly wasn’t a zero on offense, though. He shot 68% from two, and 35% from three. In transition, he loved to trail the play and hit the three, catching the opposing big napping in the paint. He will be a huge factor in Westside’s success next year, as they will enter the season with high expectations.
