Six different prospects have made the All-State already with a couple of them accomplishing the feat twice. The 2023 and 2024 classes have players capable of filling in those spots, but there are also prospects in 2022 with tability to make the All-State team. Here are the top 2022 prospects with the potential of making All-State team for the first time.
Maurice Odum Maurice Odum 6'1" | PG West Oaks | 2022 State FL , 6’1 PG Union City
It’s hard to imagine a player that led the state in scoring in his sophomore season has never made an All-State team, but that is the case with Odum. The 6’1 lead guard is crafty with the ball in his hands and can drop 25 points on any given night. Odum’s range starts once he crosses half court, but can also facilitate the offense in the half court. He is an underrated defender who plays with quick hands. Union City has the potential to make a deep run in the Group 4 sectional playoffs, creating an opportunity for Odum to land on an All-State team.
Sean Logan Sean Logan 6'10" | PF Westfield | 2022 State NJ , 6’9 PF Westfield
Logan emerged as one of the top big men in Union County last season and he should continue to impress in his final varsity season. The lanky 6’9 forward can handle the ball on the perimeter and his range extends past the three-point line. Logan has a nice touch around the basket and draws contact with consistency. He uses his length to swat shots around the basket and is a strong rebounder. Westfield looks to be one of the top teams in Group 4 this season, which should give Logan plenty of opportunities to impress.
Etienne Richelieu Etienne Richelieu 6'4" | SG Elizabeth | 2022 State NJ , 6’4 SG Elizabeth
The Minutemen have had a player selected to the All-State team each of the last two seasons and Richelieu has the potential to continue the streak. The 6’4 guard attacks the basket hard and is unafraid of drawing contact. Richelieu is more than just a slasher as he can also knock down jumpers from distance. His size allows him to defend multiple positions on the floor and is an underrated rebounder. Elizabeth should be in contention for another sectional title with Richelieu leading the charge.
Elijah Perkins Elijah Perkins 6'4" | CG Camden | 2022 State NJ , 6’3 PG Ranney
The Panthers are in store for a big 2021-22 season with Perkins leading the charge. The explosive 6’3 guard is at his best attacking the basket as he can finish in a variety of ways. Perkins has a good handle, which he uses to break down defenses and makes plays in the lane. He moves his feet extremely well on the defensive end and has a knack for getting deflections. Ranney has the potential to make noise in Non-Public B, which could land Perkins on an All-State team.
David Olaniyi David Olaniyi 5'10" | PG Newark East Side | 2022 State NJ , 5’10 PG Newark East Side
Newark East Side is ready for a big bounce back season with Olaniyi having the keys to the offense. The 5’10 guard is dynamic with the ball in his hands as he can break his defender down off the bounce and finish around the rim. Olaniyi is more than just a slasher as he has a good release on his jumper and can knock down triples in bunches. He plays with quick hands on the defensive end and is a good rebounder for a guard. The SEC American division is arguably the toughest division in the Garden State, making Olaniyi’s production that more impressive and an opportunity to make an All-State team.
