We added the most players that we have ever had and did our most thorough observations to choose what we deem to be our most thought-out rankings yet. This season was a bit different as it was condensed, so we took summer ball and mixed it with what we were able to see throughout the season as well. Here’s who we have as the top guards and floor generals on the year.
Josh Wyatt Josh Wyatt 6'1" | SG Rangeview | 2021 State CO – Rangeview
Wyatt is a player that jumped onto our radars after a slow start to the season and then an explosion as he became a pivotal piece to one of the top teams in the state. Wyatt was a playmaking guard for Rangeview that gave guard relief at times as a player that can break a defender down off of the dribble, create for himself in the halfcourt set, and is an excellent facilitator. Wyatt is a great ball-handler that sees plays before they happen, cannot be denied getting to his spots, and his ability to open up the floor with his outside shooting made him a tough cover. Wyatt is a microwave scoring option that Rangeview feels comfortable getting the ball to and getting out of the way, but he also plays well off the ball. Wyatt had a stretch in March to close out the season where he was playing his best ball, and it made the Raiders a bit more dangerous. He put up 19 points twice, and also finished with 13 and 10 points in the playoffs. He fit in seamlessly and is a player that I feel can help a school at the next level. He comes in at the No. 8 shooting guard in the class.
Chase Penry Chase Penry 6'2" | SF Cherry Creek | 2021 State CO – Cherry Creek
Penry is a Division I football athlete that will be playing on the gridiron at the next level at the University of Colorado. His ability to help that Cherry Creek team be one of the most entertaining teams in the state made him a unique role player as he was surrounded by some of the state’s best players and, at times, was the most impactful. At 6’2, Penry was the team’s best rebounders and might’ve possibly been the best positional rebounder in the state. He is relentless on the boards, keeps plays alive, and is an aggressive player that was never outworked. He averaged 6.2 boards a game and ran the floor, and finished on the opposite end as well. Penry put up 10.0 points a game in his first season back to basketball and was a big part of the rotation. He is able to play as well as defend multiple positions, is athletically gifted, and made winning plays that helped Cherry Creek enter the postseason as the No.1 overall seed in the 5A playoffs. Penry was excellent down the stretch as he started to get more comfortable in his role, and if he were to commit to basketball full time would’ve been a player that I feel could’ve played at the next level. He comes in at the No. 67 player in the state and did plenty of things that went beyond the scoreboard.
Eric Pollert Eric Pollert 6'8" | C Steamboat Springs | 2021 State CO – Steamboat Springs
Pollert is a player that somehow went under the radar, and for opposing teams, that’s a bit shocking because the 6’8 big man is the No.1 target when trying to slow down Steamboat. Steamboat Springs went 16-1 on the year and dominated every single team along the way, and the player that they relied on most was Pollert. Pollert used his size and athleticism to take over in games, and opposing teams had no answers for him. He put up 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds a game and showed himself as an inside threat. He grabbed boards, went right up, kept the ball high, and backed smaller defenders down for finishes. Pollert has great footwork and continues to get better, and is a player that can play at the next level.
Landon Nattras Landon Nattras 6'3" | SF Broomfield | 2021 State CO – Broomfield
Broomfield struggled mightily this season as they could not find a rhythm in league play but did have a backcourt duo that made them interesting. One of those players was 6’3 combo-guard Landon Nattras Landon Nattras 6'3" | SF Broomfield | 2021 State CO who scored and competed hard in games, despite seeing his team being down. Nattrass put up 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds a game and had his moments where he took over in games. There was a game where he exploded for 36 points in a close win over Fort Collins and got inside of the teeth of the defense and finished. He has a good feel for the game, can put the ball on the floor and penetrate and also can step out at times and knock down the shot. Nattrass played well even in games that his team was down and comes in at the No. 89 player in the class.
Kobe Greene Kobe Greene 6'2" | SG Windsor | 2021 State CO – Windsor
Greene was one of the top shooters in the state on one of the top teams in the state, and his ability to consistently knock down the 3-ball is why Windsor was able to continue to win. On a team with excellent guard play, but not much outside shooting, having a marksman from deep helped the team with spacing. Greene hit 55 3-pointers on the year at a 42% clip and scored in bunches. With so much pressure and attention on guards, Greene was a high IQ shooter that found holes in the defense and let it fly. His teammates made sure to find him, and he continued to hit open shots. Greene averaged 16.0 points a game for the No.1 overall seed in 4A and had moments like the game against Aurora Central, where he looked like one of the top shooters in the state. He erupted for 30 points in the game and made it so that defenses had to know where he was at all times. Greene answers a calling that all schools need at the next level; shooting. Hopefully, he can continue playing and lighting up scoreboards. He comes in as the No. 11 shooting guards in the class.
