At the high school level it is rare to see a true big man. With shot blocking, rim protection and rebounding these centers and forwards have the size and the skill every coach dreams about. With the game being dominated by the guard positions these talented “big men” will surely stand out this coming season. Watch out for the battle on the block around Seattle basketball.
David Pickles David Pickles 6'9" | C Mercer Island | 2021 State WA 6’9 Forward Graduation class of 2021 http://www.hudl.com/v/2DyMd9
This 6’9 230lbs senior forward is a must watch player. He has excellent footwork around the hoop and length gives makes him hard to defend. You can see he has put in the work to develop nice posts moves but he also has a nice jump shot and has no problem shooting the 3. He also has good timing when it comes to shot blocking and rebounding. He needs to work on his quickness and speed but as he develops and grows I see that improving.
Danny Howe 6’7 Forward Graduation class of 2021 http://www.hudl.com/v/2CrPKa
Howe is a 6’7 Senior forward who is a threat on both sides of the ball. Especially at the 3 point line, don’t let his size and length fool you this kid can shoot the ball. With his size and quick release he has the ability to shoot over any smaller defender. His length is misleading which leads to a lot of blocks, rebounds and steals for him. As he develops and gains strength with the ball he will be hard to stop. He has no problem doing the little things it takes to win, and works hard on both ends.
L.J Armstrong 6’7 Forward Graduation class of 2021 http://calss
Armstrong is one of those players who changes the game just by being on the court. His passion pours into his teammates and they feed off of him. He has a strong IQ and is very good at taking what the defense gives him with out forcing it. He has a great jump shot and is extremely strong around the rim. His strength and ability to take contact in the air makes him hard to defend. You can see it in his demeanor on the court he wants to win and will do what it takes to get his teammates involved. This kid will continue to work hard and get better, he is definitely someone to watch this season.
Newton Pepple Newton Pepple 6'6" | PF Shorecrest | 2022 State WA 6’5 Forward Graduation Class of 2022
Pepple is a 6’5 Junior forward who uses his athletic ability and high IQ to help his team at such a young age. His wide shoulder and strength make him touch to defend around the rim. He has also added a nice mid range shot to his game. He is one of those kids when you watch him you know he is going to be special. What impressed me the most about this young player was his vision and ability to make his teammates better. With two seasons left in his high school career he will be someone you want to watch for.
