On Tuesday night we got the chance to check out multiple games that went down to the wire, but also some games that were pretty much decided before the 4th quarter began. So what did we learn? Who are some of the favorites? What player seems to have taken over the driver seat for Player Of The Year? We have all those answers and more for you!
Lumberton HS showed that size on the court does not matter! They were the clear underdog in their matchup with a Millbrook HS squad that featured multiple players over 6’7 and college signees. Millbrook would hold on to get the win but Lumberton took them to the wire, forcing the game into overtime with big time plays and impressive defense.
Farmville Central has been the most dominant team in the playoffs! Winning every game by at least 18 points to secure their place in the state Championship for the third straight year and fourth time in six years. Senior Guard Terquavion Smith Terquavion Smith 6'3" | CG Farmville Central | 2021 State #105 Nation NC hasn’t missed a beat all season, scoring the ball at extremely high level and taking over the leadership role for a squad that has quite a bit of youth.
Northwood is young but not scared of the moment! The Chargers made it to the Regional Championship last season and came up short but this year they came right back and got over the hump with a win. The team features two of the best Freshman in the state in Drake Powell Drake Powell 6'6" | CG Northwood | 2024 State #8 Nation NC and Jarin Stevenson Jarin Stevenson 6'8" | SF Seaforth | 2024 #14 Nation NC with Powell knocking a big time three pointer late in the game.
Avion Pinner Avion Pinner 6'9" | PF Concord Academy | 2023 State NC is the real deal on and off the court! Avion Pinner Avion Pinner 6'9" | PF Concord Academy | 2023 State NC is a special talent that HM programs should be giving a call to not only because of his talent but character also. He competes hard and plays the game with passion but once the game ends he’s one of those players that shows he’s just as good of a person as he is a player.
Wilson Prep has all the pieces to win the 1A Chip this season! The Tigers started off this season with two losses but would bounce back and come back stronger, going on a nice winning streak that would lead them to the state championship. They have all the pieces on their roster that’s needed which includes one of the top unsigned seniors in Nasiar Blackston Nasiar Blackston 6'4" | CG Wilson Prep | 2021 State NC who can score it at a high level, and a coach in Coach Atkinson that brings the passion that every team needs.
Ardrey Kell pulled off one of the ’’upsets’’ of the Regional Championships! They defeated a North Meck team that many picked to win the state Championship game. Senior Knoah Carver Knoah Carver 6'2" | SF Charlotte Country Day | 2021 State NC led the way for his team with 23 Points shooting 50% from the field, knocking down big time shot after big time shot.
