Giant night two of Sectional 10
The highly anticipated opening round of Sectional 10 continued last night and it started off with the best matchup on paper between two State contenders of Lawrence North vs Cathedral. Things were basically neck and neck until about halfway through the 3rd quarter when Lawrence North started to take off and really never looked back. There were tons of high caliber prospects and performances in this one which included 26 points from Chris Gunn Chris Gunn 6'5" | SG Lawrence North | 2022 State #114 Nation IN , 20 points from Shamar Avance Shamar Avance 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2021 State IN , and 17 points from Cathedral’s Tayshawn Comer Tayshawn Comer 6'0" | PG Cathedral | 2022 State #226 Nation IN .
It what was a tremendous comeback, Warren Central defeated Lawrence Central 74-64. It looked like Lawrence Central was going to run away with this one, especially when they were up 14-2 at one point. However, Warren Central just continued to claw and fight their way back and eventually come away with the huge win thanks to a great game from Malik Stanley Malik Stanley 6'0" | PG Warren Central | 2021 State IN . So with the win, that sets up another huge game between Warren Central and the above team that won, Lawrence North.
Mount Vernon (Fortville) avoids upset over Richmond
In what was a battle throughout almost the entire game, Mt. Vernon was able to defeat the host Richmond, 40-34. Vernon got off to a hot start and at one point led 15-0 at the end of the first quarter. But give Richmond credit, they started fighting their way back and got it within 6 at one point in the 4th quarter. In the end, however, time what the factor and Mt. Vernon was able to escape with the win and will move on to play Greenfield-Central on Friday. Mt. Vernon’s Ahmad Jarrard and Richmond’s Stephan Douglas both were the leading scorers with 16 points each.
Quick Hitters:
- Gary West rolled over Merrillville 66-46. Big man Mason Nicholson Mason Nicholson 6'8" | C Gary West | 2021 State IN played his first game since January after suffering an ankle injury.
- Lake Central dominated East Chicago Central 69-36. With this win, it sets up a huge game between Lake Central and Gary west in round 2.
- Mishawaka beat LaPorte 68-46. This was all Mishawaka from start to finish. Trenton Johnson was the leading scorer with 17.
- South Bend Adams defeated Plymouth 65-38. This marks their 22nd win of the season and sets up the big game vs Mishawaka in round 2.
- Greenfield-Central defeated New Palestine 72-59 thanks to Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN ’ 20 point game. The Cougars will play Mount Vernon (Fortville) on Friday.
