The 4A matchup consisted of two one-loss teams squaring off against one another for all the marbles. The Argyle Eagles jumped out to a 14-point lead after one quarter of play. The Huffman Hargrave Falcons managed to cut the deficit to single digits in the third, but Argyle was able to weather the storm and maintain a comfortable lead for the majority of the contest, ultimately winning 49-30.
Here are the top performers from the matchup:
Skylar McCurry | 2021 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | Argyle HS – McCurry knocked down four triples on Saturday. His trio of three-pointers in the first quarter were instrumental in allowing Argyle to build a commanding lead in the title game. The senior guard is an effortless shooter from the catch. He contributed 12 points and two assists on his way to earning MVP honors and a championship trophy.
Nate Atwood Nate Atwood 6'7" | PF Argyle | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’7’’ Power Forward | Argyle HS – Atwood was a force in the paint vs. Huffman Hargrave, scoring 10 points and securing six rebounds. He took advantage when matched up against undersized defenders in the post and was disciplined when attacking on the block. The senior forward possesses a strong frame and even showcased that he can finish above the rim, evidenced by a powerful two-handed flush.
Eli Valentino | 2022 | 6’3’’ Shooting Guard | Argyle HS – Valentino ended up with 10 points on an efficient 5-of-7 performance from the field. The 2022 prospect had success attacking the basket and was responsible for some flashy finishes after slashing his way to the hoop. He was a consistent source of offense throughout the contest.
Jacob Harvey Jacob Harvey 6'1" | PG Huffman | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 5’11’’ Point Guard | Huffman Hargrave HS – Harvey played like his hair was on fire at both ends of the court. He competed hard from start to finish in this matchup, showing off his relentless motor. His grit on defense is what stood out most to me. The Trinity University commit accounted for 10 points, three rebounds, and three steals on Saturday.
Grey Soileau | 2022 | 6’7’’ Power Forward | Huffman Hargrave HS – Soileau displayed good offensive versatility vs. Argyle. He operated as a stretch four for the majority of play, but also looked good when playing out on the wing. He hit jumpers from mid-range and behind the arc, and also had a good-looking layup when attacking the basket off the dribble.
Luke Thomas | 2022 | 6’4’’ Small Forward | Huffman Hargrave HS – Thomas doubles as a dynamic dual-threat quarterback for his high school. His overall athleticism is apparent on the basketball court. He pulled down a game-high eight rebounds in this game and also drilled a catch-and-shoot corner three. Additionally, the two-sport athlete showed that he is capable of guarding multiple positions on defense.
