Gus Etchison Gus Etchison 6'0" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2021 State IN goes for 3A high 30 points on Tuesday
In the New Castle Sectional opener, Gus Etchison Gus Etchison 6'0" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2021 State IN torched Yorktown for 30 points, including seven made 3’s. He also added six rebounds and three steals. His dominating individual performance lifted Hamilton Heights to a 66-53 win after a strong second half. Following a halftime buzzer-beater, Hamilton Heights was up just two points heading into the break. The Huskies (16-4), winners of five straight, now face off against Muncie Burris in the sectional semifinals.
Brebeuf Jesuit goes over the century mark
Jesuit had six players double-digits in a big win on Tuesday over Manuel. Brebeuf cruised to a 105-31 victory, a game in which Manuel didn’t have more than 9 points in any quarter. The Braves got up to a 10-0 start and never looked back. It was Brebeuf’s sixth straight victory this year and also a season-high in points.
Beech Grove escapes in what could’ve been huge first-round upset
The favorite to come out of sectional 28, Beech Grove was almost part of one of the bigger upsets to kick things off on Tuesday. However, it did escape narrowly in overtime against George Washington, 46-42. Grove now heads to a semifinal matchup with Ritter, one that should be the top game in that sectional draw.
Quick Hitters:
- Indian Creek (9-14) notched its second win of the season over Herron (14-10), 58-46, after holding Matt Ray to just 8 points – averaged 19 a game.
- Frankfort got 49 combined points from Jayce Strode and Riley Goodnight in a 96-75 win over sectional host, Tri-West.
- Silver Creek rolls past Corydon Central, 77-42, with a balanced offensive attack. Kooper Jacobi Kooper Jacobi 6'6" | PF Silver Creek | 2021 State IN led all scorers with 19 and was one of four Dragons with at least 11 points. They face North Harrison in the semi’s, a huge showdown.
- Heritage Hills comes up clutch down the stretch, taking down Evansville Memorial 46-39 with an 8-0 run over the last 1:39 of the game.
- South Dearborn wins the best out of three series against rival Lawrenceburg with a 61-42 win on Tuesday. The first two matchups were decided by a combined 11 points, but the Knights pulled away in this one.
