First Team Freshmen All State Team
Daniel Mitchell (6’7 Forward) of Gregory Area. The clear best freshman in the state score a ridiculous (for his age) 26.4 points a game as a freshman while also grabbing 12 boards a contest and blocking three shots a night. Mitchell scored on nearly half of his field goal attempts this winter plus he made 37 percent of his threes.
Lane Tietz (5’8 Guard) of Groton Area. Tietz was a second team all league player this year averaging 13 points a game with 3 three assists a contest. Tietz led his team to 13 victories this season as the best player on the team and the best underclassmen in the NEC.
Porter Ihnen (6’4 Forward) of Lennox. Ihnen averaged 12 points and six rebounds a contest facing some of Class A’s best bigs this year. Ihnen was relied offensively so he faced a lot of tough defenders but his talent is clear.
Tyson Stevenson (5’11 Guard) of Hamlin. Stevenson earned third team all conference honors this season scoring 11.5 points a game with two assists a contest. Stevenson stepped forward as the team’s best guard.
Nicolas Marshall (6’0 Guard) of White River. A key player for White River and their run to fifth place in state was Nic Marshall. Marshall started on the wing and gave his team shooting that often times led to double figure scoring. Key player for a top ten team in state all season.
Second Team Freshmen All State Team
Jacoby Mehrman (6’3 Guard) of Harrisburg. Mehrman played more and more for Harrisburg as the season moved on including a three score game on the big stage of the State Tournament. A good athlete that is versatile and will likely become a consistent there year starter.
Matthew Anderson (6’4 Wing) of Canton. Anderson is one of the most explosive, athletic players on this list. He’s physically ahead of many players and Canton counted on him as one of their most reliable players.
JT Rock (6’10 C) of SF Lincoln. Rock came off the bench playing a couple rotations a night for Lincoln. He’d grab three boards, block a shot, and score once or twice.
Alex Schumacher (5’9 Guard) of Miller. Alex is a two year varsity player that averaged eight points a game this year and ranked with the steals leaders in their league.
Aiden Barfuss (6’0 Guard) of Winner. A skilled guard that handled the ball and knocked down shots off the bench this year for a top ten team. Barfuss was often the second or third player off the bench for Winner and it was a promising start to what should be a strong career.
Third Team Freshmen All State Team
Tyan Buus (5’9 Guard) of Sturgis Brown. Basketball is in the Buus blood and with a strong understanding of the game Tyan was playing early in his career. His shooting stroke pushed him to a couple 20 plus point games.
Erick Jorgenson (6’7 Post) of Hill City. Jorgenson averaged eight rebounds a game ranking him with one of the best rebounders in the class. Scored the buckets a game but it was his rebounding that was crucial to his team.
Kohen Kranz (5’10 Guard) of Watertown. Kranz worked his way into the 6th Man role for Watertown this year and the more he played the Arrows seemed to play better. Watertown won five of their last eight regular season games.
Teyshaun Eaglestaff (6’4 Wing) of Spearfish. Eaglestaff’s size and skill allowed him to become a reliant scoring option early in his career for the Spartans. As the Spartans youth improved including wins in six of their last seven games.
Linkin Ballard (6’0 Guard) of New Underwood. Linkin averaged eight points, three boards, four assists, and two steals a game. Did some of everything for his team.
Seth Hamilton (6’1 Guard) of Spearfish. A lot of nights Hamilton was the main scoring option for Spearfish as he led the team in scoring a number of times.
Fourth Team Freshmen All State Team
Lane Tvedt (6’0 Guard) of Castlewood. Lane scored eight points a game this winter and scored in double figures nine times this year plus averaged three assists a contest.
Rhett Kloth (6’7 Center) of Garretson. Kloth’s rebounding and some low post finishes were key to the improvements of the team. His size in low post defense was important and he rebounded well.
Jaxson Wingert (6’5 Forward) of Dakota Valley. Wingert made an impression early in the season and while later in the year he wasn’t in the line-up his early season impact for a top team is surely notable.
Layton Terkildsen (5’10 Guard) of Philip. Layton was among a big group of freshmen that played in his program and there were nights where his playmaking made him look like one of the best frosh in Class B.
Justin Albers (6’0 Guard) New Underwood. Albers averaged nine a game this winter while collecting five boards a game for his team.
Keegan Stewart (6’3 Forward) of Aberdeen Roncalli. Stewart came off the bench for Roncalli this winter.
