The Offer – Minnesota Duluth offered Rosemount guard Caleb Siwek Caleb Siwek 6'1" | SG Rosemount | 2022 State MN a scholarship this week.
The Player – Caleb is a 6-foot-2, 170 pound junior guard from Rosemount High School (MN). He’s led his team to an 11-6 record this year highlighted by his 20.4 points a game and two game winning buzzer beaters to beat Lakeville South. Siwek is a top 20 level talent in the junior class and most years he’d be in the top 12-15 range but the 2022 group is so much deeper than most other groups. Siwek was a 4th Team 17U All State honored player last summer for what he did with Howard Pulley. Siwek was one of only five 2022 players to be honored among the top 20 17u honored talents from a year ago.
The Ability – The three videos I’ve pulled and linked at the bottom of the page are Caleb’s most recent game against Eagan, summer clips from playing with Howard Pulley, and his sophomore highlight film. What can you see in the video? For that we go Basketball in Bullet Points:
- Right handed shooter who is one of the main members of the Junior Class 40% Club (meaning Caleb is consistently about a 40 percent or better three point shooter).
- When Siwek is coming off a screen running especially to his left, he gets his feet set so quickly to catch and hit that most teams can’t defend it.
- It isn’t just off the catch he hits shots off the screen, Caleb’s left hand attack dribble off the ball screen is deadly as well. Teams almost have to show hard and double because Siwek is so quick to release his jumper.
- I would call the Siwek handles slick. His shot is so good that I think people overlook how good he is with a couple dribbles to clear.
- Trail threes? He will bury them with range so he’s a player have to retreat and locate quickly. Same can be said for when Siwek is pushing the ball himself. Players have to be aware of him instantly in transition with or without the ball as Siwek hunts for his shot from anywhere and he’s 40 percent or better deadly.
- Kick-outs from the post? Siwek will drain those two so you can’t help into the post off of him.
- The high school film shows more off the dribble and the move that really caught my eye was the hesitation on the hard closeout into a basket attack. More agility around the cup to finish than I think people credit him for.
- In looking at the three videos as well as thinking back to when I’ve seen Caleb play, this is a player that can make contested shots. Athletic players standing 6-foot-2, 6-foot-3 got a hand in Siwek’s space and he’s still made a solid percent of attempts.
- Comfortable with the handle both right and left.
The Support – Players don’t have success on their own. Therefore I felt like we need to also honor those around Caleb this winter who are playing well. Here are two more talents to know from Rosemount:
- Sean Sullivan Sean Sullivan 6'1" | SG Rosemount | 2021 State MN . Sean is a six-foot senior guard that is commonly the second Irish scoring option but most importantly he’s often the distributor. Sullivan is the player that distributes, sets the offense for the Irish. Makes the delivery to cutters and open shooters yes but just as important is the early wing entry pass that starts the movement. Add in Sullivan’s consistent defense and you have a nice player.
- Nolan Loehr. Nolan stands 6-foot-3 and is a face-up forward that can hit shots with comfort but also likes the dirty work battling around the basket. Solid rebounder, consistently active player, and the Irish’s third leading point producer.
