Beaumont United is now 30-0 on the season and will play in their first state championship game this Saturday against Kimball (Dallas, TX). #23 Terrance Arceneaux Terrance Arceneaux 6'7" | SF Beaumont United | 2022 State #46 Nation TX (Beaumont United- 2022) Terrance Arceneaux Terrance Arceneaux 6'7" | SF Beaumont United | 2022 State #46 Nation TX was able to take advantage of his superior size & athleticism against Glenn with putbacks that showcased his quick second jump. Arceneaux was able to handle in space, get downhill & finish at the rim while showing glimpses of playmaking ability- delivering accurate dump-off passes with either hand. In transition, Arceneaux displayed impressive athleticism with above-the-rim finishes and fluid euro steps to avoid reaching defenders. Though still developing as a PNR ballhandler, Arceneaux got excellent elevation on his pull-ups and showed a willingness to make the right play and not force the issue.
#3 Wesley Yates Wesley Yates 6'4" | SG Beaumont United | 2023 State #36 Nation TX III (Beaumont United- 2023) Wesley Yates Wesley Yates 6'4" | SG Beaumont United | 2023 State #36 Nation TX didn’t have to score much Tuesday and focused on getting his teammates involved. The thing that stands out immediately about Yates is his bulky frame at the guard position. Though just a sophomore, Yates III weighs around the 200-pound range & it showed the way defenders bounced off him when they attempted to get into his body. He showed great poise when trapped and almost always made the correct read. Playing off the ball, Yates III showed glimpses of being able to play off DHOs and get downhill and finish with touch. Yates III was consistent with his shot release and knockdown shooting ability off the catch.
#4 Trealyn Porchia Trealyn Porchia 6'6" | SF Beaumont United | 2023 State TX (Beaumont United-2023) Trealyn Porchia Trealyn Porchia 6'6" | SF Beaumont United | 2023 State TX has already made a name for himself on the gridiron as a wide receiver but is a vital piece of the basketball team. Porchia was a problem in United’s full-court trap, forcing multiple turnovers off the initial trap after the inbound. In the defensive half-court, Porchia wreaked havoc by effectively helping and recovering on the perimeter with his long limbs. Porchia displayed some versatility defensively- blocking a jump shot and a shot at the rim, respectively. In the 3rd quarter, Porchia showed a glimpse of fluidity on the perimeter with a smooth euro step finish while driving baseline. Porchia spent most of the game running the floor and finishing dump-off dishes in the half-court while flying around defensively.
#5 Jaylen Thompson Jaylen Thompson 6'2" | CG Leander Glenn | 2021 State TX (Glenn- 2021) Jaylen Thompson Jaylen Thompson 6'2" | CG Leander Glenn | 2021 State TX played well in his final high school game. He has a consistent high release on his jumper that allows him to get his shot off without much space and be accurate off the catch when he has an open look. With the ball in his hands, Thompson played with good pace off hesitation dribbles with an effective left to right crossover to either get downhill or pull up off a behind-the-back snatchback. Thompson showed poise and never got sped up against an active United defense. He showed toughness at the rim as well, finishing through contact. In the PNR, Thompson displayed a fluid reject in the 3rd quarter to get downhill and finish with a lay-in at the rim.
