Last week we revealed Part I and Part II of our Class of 2022 prospects from the Philly suburbs who had an impact for their varsity squad this winter. Our group of talented 2022s who had a tremendous 2020-21 season and will play at the next level is deep. So today we present Part III of our impact 2022 prospects from suburban Philadelphia list.
Neel Beniwal Neel Beniwal 6'5" | SG Phelps School | 2022 State PA – 6’4” / Phelps School / Wing: Last winter Beniwal was one of the deadliest three point shooters in all of Delaware County. However, the long and athletic shooter missed a slew of games with knee tendinitis. In summer 2020, Beniwal transferred to the Phelps School and reclassed into the 2022 graduation year. This past fall at Phelps it was obvious that he added muscle to his frame and improved his ability to score off the dribble. Those developments produced a very strong 2020-21 season for Beniwal who averaged 13 points per night while shooting 42% from three. This winter his improved scoring ability off the bounce caught defenders by surprise and led to easy buckets at the rim. Beniwal is also a capable and willing defender. The coaching staff at Phelps School says that Beniwal is hearing from all levels of college coaches (D1-D3), but they project him as a D1 prospect.
Jaeden Brickus Jaeden Brickus 6'2" | SG Coatesville | 2022 State PA – 6’1” / Coatesville / Wing: As a sophomore Brickus was a starter, but the 3rd/4th option on a star studded Coatesville team. This winter Brickus stepped into the spotlight and the college coaches should really like what they witnessed (online of course). For years Brickus has exhibited the ability to hit shots from behind the arc at a high rate. He owns text book mechanics, deep range and a quick release. So defenders should pick this kid up at half court. However, in 2021 Brickus (17 ppg.) proved he has developed a more well-rounded game. This season the 2022 prospect evolved into a fearless penetrator who can blow past most defenders. He also did an excellent job of filling the lane in transition and then scoring on the fast break. Brickus plays bigger than his size and is an excellent rebounding wing. Defensively he is very good on-ball defender and has a good grasp of team concepts. Brickus’ season high was 25 points against Bishop Shanahan. In 2020-21 he led Coatesville in scoring, rebounding, blocks and steals.
Michael Farley Michael Farley 6'7" | PF Central Bucks South | 2022 State PA – 6’7” / Junior / Central Bucks South / Power Forward: Probably the most accurate way to describe Farley’s game is to classify him as a high level stretch-4 and then note that he can handle the rock like a guard as well. On the interior Farley can score with a quick power dribble or off his mid-range jumper. A nice flip hook is also part of Farley’s interior bag of tricks. On the perimeter, he can splash home the occasional 3-ball. Plus he owns an arsenal of ball fakes that allow him to get past a defender and into the paint, where he can score at the rim with both hands. The wiry big man has a developing pick-n-pop / pick-n-roll game as well. Farley is a solid rebounder, runs the floor very well and will elevate to flush on a defender. At the defensive end, Farley is an elite shot blocker. After this season Farley was a 2nd team All Suburban One League (Colonial Division) selection. In 2020-21 Farley posted notable games of 18 points vs Souderton (4 threes); 15 points (2 threes) against North Penn; 14 pts and 8 rebounds vs CB East; 14 & 5 vs Bensalem; and 14 points vs Pennridge.
Deywilk Tavarez Deywilk Tavarez 6'2" | CG Academy of New Church | 2023 State PA – 6’2” / Shipley / Combo Guard: In 2019-20 while at Highland HS (NJ) this backcourt scoring machine averaged 15 ppg., and scored 20+ points seven times. This past summer Tavarez brought his well-rounded skill set to Shipley and has continued his elite scoring ways. He can get out in transition and score by slashing to the hoop. In the half court, he is deadly with the three point shot or he can put the ball on the deck to score in the paint. Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, Shipley only played a five game schedule this season, but Tavarez still managed to achieve an impressive stat line of 14 ppg., 7 rpg., 3 apg. and 2 spg. Tavarez really turned heads when he shot 13/17 from the floor on his way to 30 points vs Abington Friends School. Tavarez also posted a healthy 18 points and 14 rebounds double-double against Germantown Friends School.
Tyson Thomas Tyson Thomas 6'1" | PG Allentown Central Catholic | 2022 State PA – 6’1” / Allentown Central Catholic / Combo Guard: Thomas was the 2020-21 Co-MVP of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s Lehigh Division and helped push the Vikings to the District 11-4A championship. Currently the Vikings are still alive in the PIAA-4A state tournament. Thomas’ junior campaign was so successful (16 ppg.) because this elite combo guard can he can get buckets off the dribble or with the jump shot. Additionally, this extremely athletic and versatile guard excels at slashing to the rim in transition. His noteworthy performances from this winter include a slew of 20+ point games: 25 against Parkland (8/8 from FT line); 25 (4 threes) vs Roberto Clemente Charter; 24 vs Archbishop Carroll in the PIAA 4A state quarterfinals; as well as 21 vs Holy Ghost Prep and 21 again vs William Allen.
