Spring is right around the corner. With spring comes the transition into grassroots basketball. As we prepare for that transition, here is a rundown of five local 2022 prospects who might break out.
It’s unfortunate that Flint Hill was not able to get together and run a few games this season, because Reis Jones Reis Jones 6'6" | C Flint Hill | 2022 State VA would have been a difference-maker in the paint for the Huskies. Jones would have likely earned a reputation as one of the most effective rim protectors in the MAC. The Oxon Hill transfer decided to reclassify into 2022 and will look to make up for lost time this spring.
Injuries previously interrupted a promising start to Christian May Christian May 6'4" | SF Bishop O'Connell | 2022 State VA ’s high school career, but he appears to be back on track. May has been a standout for Arlington Blue at The St. James Winter League. At 6-foot-5, he looks the part and certainly has the game to back it up. He first and foremost plays hard. May is a good shooter who is strong and athletic. He is built to absorb contact around the basket and is a consistent finisher in traffic. Once the evaluation period finally opens back up, his recruitment could skyrocket.
It’s been a steady progression for Jerrell Roberson Jerrell Roberson 6'8" | C DeMatha | 2022 State MD at DeMatha. The 6-foot-9 junior is coming into his own at the right time. Roberson logged big minutes this season and played some of his best basketball to date. He can score around the basket, has expanding face-up skills, and intriguing defensive potential. Roberson has effectively hedged and switched screens throughout the season. He has also come up with some impressive blocks. The offers should begin to flow in eventually.
It’s been a little while since we’ve caught a glimpse of Garvin Sween Jr. There’s no denying his long-term potential though. He’s rangy with physical tools that you can’t teach. It will be interesting to see what Sween looks like this spring.
Miles Webb Miles Webb 6'7" | PF St. Stephen's St. Agnes | 2022 State VA is quickly becoming one of the better wing defenders you’ll find in the local 2022 class. His arms are like tentacles that suffocate foes at the point of attack. Webb is very versatile defensively. He can guard 1-5 and rebound out of his area. He’ll be a fun prospect to watch this spring.
