This weekend was the annual SoCal Clash hosted by Beach City Hoops. The game featured some of the top SoCal players from the Class of 2021 and 2022.
I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1. Roddie Anderson Roddie Anderson 6'1" | PG Fountain Valley | 2022 State CA-S – Fountain Valley 2022
Anderson is one of the fastest rising guards in SoCal. I’ve been watching him play at the Hoops 2.0 Showcases the past couple of months and he gets better every game. He’s got an explosive off the dribble game, he weaves his way through the defense and gets to the cup. Real comfortable with the ball in his hands and shooting the midrange off the dribble. Nice little fadeaway jumper. He’s a solid playmaker too.
2. AJ Burgin AJ Burgin 6'3" | CG San Diego | 2021 State CA-S – San Diego 2021
An Idaho State commit, Burgin is a solid all-around guard. I first saw him play about two years ago and he stood out then for his outside shooting. He’s still a knockdown shooter from deep but he can also attack off the dribble and he’s got a little floater in the lane. He runs the offense well as a point guard and he can recognize the hot hand and feed them the ball. Pushes the pace well in transition.
3. Devean Williams – Narbonne 2021
Williams is another player I’ve watched at the Hoops 2.0 Showcases and while he is a strong scoring guard, what always stands out to me is his vision and his playmaking. He’s one of the most unselfish players I’ve seen who is always willing to make the extra pass even if it’s at his scoring expense. He can get into the lane and he finds the open shooters or cutters. A real combo guard.
