I was treated to some brilliant shooting performances in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. With that in mind, here are nine standout shot makers from the 2020-21 season:
Gavin Perryman Gavin Perryman 6'1" | SG Dallas Jesuit | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’1’’ Shooting Guard | Dallas Jesuit – Perryman is a sniper who can get it done off the dribble or from the catch. The 2021 prospect has the numbers to back it up too, finishing the season shooting 45% from three-point range on 98 made threes. His pull-up game from mid-range was strong as well.
Khalil Mahtani Khalil Mahtani 6'0" | PG J.J. Pearce | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | J.J. Pearce HS – Mahtani can knock down shots from inside and outside the arc. His jumper is sound, and he has a knack for hitting off-balanced shots, making him difficult to defend. He can be a valuable asset at the D2 level.
Ryan Agarwal Ryan Agarwal 6'7" | SF Coppell | 2022 State #99 Nation TX | 2022 | 6’7’’ Small Forward | Coppell HS – Anyone who has seen Agarwal play knows that he can shoot the lights out from anywhere on the floor. The Stanford commit is the definition of a shot-maker. He is dynamic, capable of getting his shot off with little space and still sinking it.
Cooper Macaulay Cooper Macaulay 6'5" | SG Little Elm | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’6’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Little Elm HS – Macaulay is a sharpshooter with good size who can comfortably play at the two or the three. He finished the season as a 35% three-point shooter and hit multiple triples in six of his 13 regular-season games. The 6-foot-6-inch wing is positioned for a breakout senior season.
Cruz Davis Cruz Davis 6'3" | PG Huntington Prep | 2022 WV | 2022 | 6’3’’ Point Guard | iSchool of Lewisville – Davis’s smooth style of play pairs well with his ability to drain shots off the bounce. He is great at getting his shots off in rhythm. His ablity to stop-and-pop from mid-range is what earned him a spot on this list.
Justin Maina | 2022 | 5’9’’ Point Guard | Melissa HS – Maina shot an efficient 42% from behind the arc this season. He has deep range and takes a lot of his shots from well behind the three-point line, making his shooting percentage even more impressive. The 2022 floor general is a threat as soon as he crosses half court.
Elijah Powers Elijah Powers 5'9" | PG Arlington Lamar | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’8’’ Shooting Guard | Arlington Lamar HS – Powers impressed me by hitting several threes in a playoff matchup against Lake Highlands, and all of them were extremely difficult shots. Heavily contested, five feet behind the arc, or at the end of the clock, just give this kid the ball and let him launch it.
T’Johnn Brown T’Johnn Brown 6'0" | PG Dallas Kimball | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | South Garland HS – Brown is a reliable shooter off the dribble both from mid-range and from deep. It’s scary that he is already this confident as a shooter in only his second year of high school. He has a right to be too, because the 6-foot guard is a gamer.
Adrian Banks Adrian Banks 6'1" | SG Lewisville | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’2’’ Shooting Guard | Lewisville HS – Banks is a terrific three-point shooter from the catch. He is more than that too, displaying the ability to go under close outs after a pump fake and drill mid-range jumpers after a couple dribbles. He should only benefit from an increase in shot attempts next season with the departure of Kylin Green Kylin Green 6'0" | PG Lewisville | 2021 State TX .
