Continue ReadingIdaho has long been a provider of high quality post players and that trend has not changed this season. Many of the top players in the state would fall under the “posts” category and each player has shown their size and skill to be great advantages on the court. As the season comes to a close, one of the best ways to remember and examine the best bigs across the state is to look at production and overall impact for their teams. This is a short list that could include many more players if I had the time and space. Continue reading for a look at a handful of post players that showed their skills and abilities in the 2020-21 season.
Blake Buchanan Blake Buchanan 6'10" | PF Lake City | 2023 State #172 Nation ID , Lake City: Buchanan is one of the best up and coming talents in the state and his skills were on full display this season. He has a great looking jumper from outside and can also play a more traditional back to the basket style. Buchanan’s size, coordination, and overall approach to the game make him a tough cover for all teams. Blake made a big impact on Lake City this season after transferring from Moscow as he was able to lead Lake City to a postseason berth after a really solid season.
Nolan Bower Nolan Bower 6'8" | C Fruitland | 2022 State ID , Fruitland: Nolan produced some of the most ridiculous stat lines this season including a handful of games with as many rebounds as points scored. Bower is a walking double-double who has a lot of finesse at the rim and can easily score against opponents of any size. On defense, Nolan is physical and uses his body to stay in front of opposing guards and post players. Overall, Nolan has a great feeling for the game and would make a great post at the next level.
Jacob Ankeny Jacob Ankeny 6'8" | C Marsing | 2021 State ID , Marsing: Jacob improved his stock this season as he played really well against all kinds of opponents and showed his ability to score and rebound at a high level. Jacob is a solid post on offense who uses a variety of moves with both hands to score around the rim. He can also step back and score from outside when needed. Defensively, he is a good rim protector and can keep anyone in front of him. Ankeny is a really solid all around player that makes everyone around him better.
