Having an aggressive mindset and the capability of not turning the ball over can turn a good guard or forward into a great guard and forward. Based on stats turned in this season, lets take a look at some of the leaders in assist to turnover ratio this past season.
Xavier Hall Xavier Hall 5'11" | CG Bishop Miege | 2022 State KS , Bishop Miege, 5’10 Point Guard, 2022 (Pictured): One of the leaders in the back court for the 4A champs, Hall is wizard with the ball in his hands, and helped facilitate shots to the immense talent on the roster. He has great handle, a high basketball IQ, and a great ability to pass the ball in tight windows so it is no surprise he is near the top of this list. On the season Hall dropped 76 assists to only 28 turnovers for a ratio of 2.71. Hall also averaged over 7 points per game on the year, but where he shines is in his ability to make plays for others at an efficient rate.
Mac Demo, Blue Valley, 5’11 Guard, 2021: A very solid and steady point guard, Demo played his role as the point guard really well for Blue Valley this year. Playing with some high level talent, Demo played well overall and did a great job of getting his guys high quality looks. He dished out 58 assists on the season to only 23 turnovers while averaging over 3 assists per game.
Michael Cahill Michael Cahill 5'11" | PG St James | 2021 State KS , St James, 5’11 Guard, 2021: Known for his tremendous shooting ability and his knack for scoring the ball, Cahill also rounded out his game nicely in his senior campaign, taking advantage of the extra focus from defenders on the perimeter to get his guys involved and good looks off extra passes or drive and kicks. Outside of scoring over 14 points per game this year, Cahill got his assists numbers to almost 3 a game while having an assist to turnover rate of 1.88. Some college is getting themselves a high iq guard who can also really score the ball.
Kaleb Gaddis Kaleb Gaddis 6'1" | PG Andover | 2021 State KS , Andover, 6’ Guard, 2021: One of the best floor generals in Kansas this year, Gaddis has a great command for the team and each game he played in. He has a nice feel for the flow of games and attacks accordingly, and he is rarely out of control while handling the ball or rushed due to ball pressure. He averaged almost 5 assists per game this season with a turnover ration of 1.75. With his aggressive nature with the ball and usage rate, that is an incredible number.
Wyatt Angell, Hugoton, 6’1 Guard, 2021: Another strong senior point guard on this list that showed great poise with the ball while being an aggressive playmaker for his team. Angell was a solid stat sheet stuffer for a really tough Hugoton team this season, and he was the perfect compliment to run the steady guard minutes for them. He averaged 9.2 points and 4.8 assists this season with an assist to turnover ratio of 1.85. Could be a nice late flyer for a college program needing a steady point guard to develop.
