It’s been a difficult season, one that included the cancelation of the high school season, tons of players coming and going, and an overall lack of playing opportunities. Despite that and thanks to yeomen efforts from coaches, I’ve been fortunate to see a ton of players and learn some new names. The class features a surprising number of talented forwards. In this article, a follow-up to our top forwards part 1 we take a look at the top forwards in the class of 2023.
Ethan Goon Ethan Goon 6'7" | PF Bishop Manogue | 2023 NC 6’6 PF Bishop Manogue #24 – Goon’s drop is directly correlated to the lack of basketball being played in the state. The high flying forward saw minutes as freshmen for the Miners. He’s a good athlete that boards and contest shots.
Steven Ramsey Steven Ramsey 6'3" | PF Valley | 2023 State NV 6’3 PF Valley #28 – Ramsey has been steadily improving over the last 6 months. He is a solid glue guy that provides low post defense and rebounding. He’s active around the basket scoring with finishes and putbacks.
Jameer McNeal Jameer McNeal 6'2" | SF Mojave | 2023 State NV 6’2 SF Mojave #29 – McNeal has some serious physical tools. The long-armed forward has a good frame and athleticism to be a lockdown defender. In traffic, he’s a problem when he can play downhill in transition, or on the finishing end of dimes.
Kemion Smith 6’3 PF Sierra Vista #30 – A new addition to the list Smith scores mainly down low, but also uses his quickness to pull bigs away from the basket. He has decent footwork, using spin moves off his dribble drives.
Wyatt Jaeck Wyatt Jaeck 6'7" | PF Arbor View | 2023 State NV 6’7 PF Arbor View #37 – Jaeck has size and his skill makes him intriguing. He is deliberate in the post, however, he can finish around the basket over his left shoulder with his strong hand. He won’t kill you with athleticism but he has decent fundamentals and a willingness to block out before going after a rebound.
Ephram Ezidiegwu Ephram Ezidiegwu 6'5" | PF Bonanza | 2023 State NV 6’5 PF Bonanza #39 – The first thing you notice about Ezidiegwu is his frame. Built like a middleweight boxer he has a decent first jump and is tough to move off the box. He’s also a high academic guy setting himself up for more scholarship opportunities down the road.
