Continue ReadingThe New Prep Hoops Player Rankings are out. It’s been a difficult season, one that included the cancelation of the high school season, tons of players coming and going, and an overall lack of playing opportunities. Despite that and thanks to yeomen efforts from coaches, I’ve been fortunate to see a ton of players and learn some new names. Several players have used this time to improve their game while raising their stock. In this article, we take a look at the top stockrisers in the c/o 2023.
Chase Jackson Chase Jackson 6'8" | C Centennial | 2023 State NV 6’8 C Centennial 31↑ 11 – The big man made big moves. Jackson has always had the size, now he’s starting to put together the skill. Most of it has to do with his understanding and playing to his strengths. Jackson has been more active on the backboards and is putting together a semblance of a low post-game.
Jaquavis Williford Jaquavis Williford 6'6" | SG Western | 2023 CA-S 6’5 SG Western 13↑ 9 (featured image) – Williford is one of the most dynamic scorers in the class. The long wing gobbles up real estate on the basketball court, and when he can get to his strong hand is virtually unstoppable. More than just an all airport guy, Williford is a multi-level scorer with an ever-improving offensive package.
Giali Chapman Giali Chapman 6'3" | CG Mojave | 2023 State NV 6’0 CG Mojave 21↑ 15 – Chapman has been steadily rising since the original rankings of his class. He’s such an intriguing prospect because he can legitimately play both backcourt spots. He is one of the top combo guards in his class because of his shooting and playmaking ability.
Leyton Barr Leyton Barr 5'10" | SG Faith Lutheran | 2023 State NV 5’10 SG Faith Lutheran 29↑ 20 – Lot of things went into Barr’s rise. The first is that he has the signature skill of shooting. He also is a high IQ guy that plays hard. Looks like he’s going to get an opportunity to play on the Gauntlet this summer.
Calin Farrimon Calin Farrimon 5'10" | PG Bonanza | 2023 State NV 5’10 PG Bonanza 36↑ 33 – Farrimon isn’t making anyones all airport team, but he’s a player. The PG is a sniper with insane confidence.
LJ Mercurius LJ Mercurius 6'3" | SF Faith Lutheran | 2023 State NV 6’3 SG The Meadows School 37 ↑34 – Mercurius is a multi-sport star, with terrific R&J ability. He’s at his best when he’s out in transition, but a lot of his rise has coincided with a small growth spurt and his overall physical improvement.
