It’s been a difficult season, one that included the cancelation of the high school season, tons of players coming and going, and an overall lack of playing opportunities. Despite that and thanks to yeomen efforts from coaches, I’ve been fortunate to see a ton of players and learn some new names. Like a good team, the c/o 2022 is lead by the Point Guards, which is perhaps the position filled with the most prospects. In this article, we take a look at the top PGs in the class.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 Las Vegas #2 (featured image) – The list starts with one of the top PGs on the West Coast. Jackson possesses elite blow-by ability. The PG has the quickness and handle to get anywhere he wants on the court and is one of the top rebounders at his position.
Jaycob McBath Jaycob McBath 6'0" | PG Skyline Prep | 2022 State AZ 6’0 Desert Valley Prep #9 – McBath is a scoring PG, that has an excellent mid-range and off-the-bounce game. He doesn’t get all the way to the bucket, preferring to beat opponents from 18 to 15 feet. He’s also one of the top P&R guards in the state.
Damion Byrd Damion Byrd 5'10" | PG Silverado | 2022 State NV 5’11 Silverado #10 – Byrd is a high academic prospect that can set up teammates and create for himself. He’s one of the stronger PGs. using his low center of gravity and lateral quickness to harass opposing ballhandlers.
Elijah Johnson Elijah Johnson 5'10" | PG Durango | 2022 NV 5’8 PG Durango #13 – Johnson is one of the fastest and best defensive players on the West Coast. The lefty is a blur getting up and down the court putting pressure on the defense. Speaking of pressure, the 5’8 PG applies maximum pressure to opposing ballhandlers.
Anthony Pittman Anthony Pittman 6'0" | PG Bishop Gorman | 2022 State NV 6’0 Bishop Gorman #29 – Pittman is an intriguing prospect. A good two-way player and high academic performer, he changes games with his ability to defend opposing ballhandlers. Offensively he uses his blow by speed as well as some COD’s to get past defenders.
Jacques Williams Jr Jacques Williams Jr 5'9" | PG Arbor View | 2022 NV 5’10 Arbor View #34 – The theme of the PGs is their ability to defend. Williams falls right in line with that theory. His best skill is his on-ball defense, but when he’s making his shots, he becomes an entirely different problem. He was recently named as one of the top performers from Cedar City Showcase 2
