It’s been a difficult season, one that included the cancelation of the high school season, tons of players coming and going, and an overall lack of playing opportunities. Despite that and thanks to yeomen efforts from coaches, I’ve been fortunate to see a ton of players and learn some new names. In this article, we take a look at some of the stockrisers from in the c/o 2022.
Dontrell Johnson Dontrell Johnson 6'5" | SF Trinity | 2022 State NV 6’5 SF Bonanza 13↑ 8 (featured image) – Johnson only knows how to play one way, and that’s hard. He rebounds and runs the floor like a maniac. While he is more of a post on offense, his speed, length, and athleticism easily allow him to defend a wing.
Jalen Foy Jalen Foy 6'5" | SF Canyon Springs | 2022 State NV 6’5 PF Canyon Springs 19↑ 15 – Has a chance to be one of the top sleepers in the state next season. A big-bodied post his sophmore season at Canyon, Foy still managed to shoot the ball at a high rate. A slimmed-down version of him has provided him with dynamic playmaking ability to go along with that strap.
Donte Turner Donte Turner 6'2" | SF Cimarron | 2022 State NV 6’3 SF Cimarron 29↑ 16 – Turner’s strength is his ability to defend multiple positions. Offensively he finds ways to score, either by getting out in transition or grabbing boards around the rim.
Isaiah Dahl Isaiah Dahl 6'4" | SG Elko | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Elko 47↑ 28 – Dahl falls under my Nick Attansiasio theory. Last year the lefty from Faith demonstrated his ability to shoot the ball. He parlayed that into a Juco scholarship and is now one of the leading scorers and shooters in his conference. Dahl is eerily similar. He shoots it well both in catch and shoots’s and off the move. His 6’3 frame provides good size for a shooter.
Anthony Pittman Anthony Pittman 6'0" | PG Bishop Gorman | 2022 State NV 5’11 PG Bishop Gorman 50↑ 29 – Pittman is a grinder that just shows up and performs. He is one of the best on-ball defenders in the state but also has some offensive tools. He’s quick and has shown the ability to blow by defenders and get consistent paint touches.
Michael Socorro Michael Socorro 5'8" | PG Sierra Vista | 2022 State NV 5’10 PG Sierra Vista 51↑ – 48 – Socorro is a high IQ pg that controls his team. He’s crafty enough to finish around the paint but also understands when and how to get teammates looks. He could be a key piece to a young SV squad next season.
Malakai Christian Malakai Christian 6'4" | PF Sierra Vista | 2022 State NV 6’4 C Sierra Vista 74↑ 61 – Christian is big-bodied post that plays in the paint. He’s had some good games this season and is starting to draw some interest from a few smaller schools. A good low post defender and rebounder, he’s a good anchor in the post.
