Continue ReadingAnnouncements will begin soon in the state of Louisiana for the all-state teams in each class. Historically, the Louisiana Sportswriter Association (LSWA) begins with the lower classifications and culminates with the highest one (5A). In that vain, I will do the same. I will look at the ten players I think will be on the first and second team for class C along with some possible alternates.
1st Team (Alphabetical order)
Brandon Harton Brandon Harton 6'4" | SF Jehovah-Jireh | 2021 State LA (6’4″ | Jehovah-Jireh | 2021)
Adam Mercier Adam Mercier 6'0" | PG Parkview Baptist | 2022 State LA (6’0″ | Family Christian Academy | 2022)
Zach Parrie Zach Parrie 5'11" | PG Ebarb | 2021 State LA (6’0″ | Ebarb | 2021)
NaShaun Reddick (5’9″ | Jehovah-Jireh | 2021)
John-Paul Ricks John-Paul Ricks 6'0" | PG Jehovah-Jireh | 2022 State #206 Nation LA (6’0″ | Jehovah-Jireh | 2022)
The first team is not vastly different from my preseason projections. I will start with my one big miss however and that is Adam “AJ” Mercier. He led Family Christian to a district championship and was named district MVP for this season. Family Christian came within three points of dethroning Jehovah-Jireh for the Division V title and Mercier was a key in that run. Zach Parrie Zach Parrie 5'11" | PG Ebarb | 2021 State LA just participated in the LHSBCA All-star game and had some very big moments during the Ebarb run to the class C championship game. His semifinal and final performances were otherworldy. Parrie’s game overshadowed the semifinal game performance of NaShaun Reddix (39 points). He led Phoenix to the second seed in class C and was one game away from playing for the title.
John-Paul Ricks John-Paul Ricks 6'0" | PG Jehovah-Jireh | 2022 State #206 Nation LA soldified himself as the best point guard in his class as he had another season thay may garner him the most outstanding player award in class C for a second year in a row. His teammate Brandon Harton Brandon Harton 6'4" | SF Jehovah-Jireh | 2021 State LA averaged a double-double for the year and showed up big for Jehovah-Jireh during Marsh Madness. These players have alternated being the most outstanding player of the Division V title game and I think they will both make the class C first team.
2nd Team (Alphabetical order)
Wayne Huckaby Wayne Huckaby 6'0" | PG Calvin | 2022 State LA (5’11″ | Calvin | 2022)
Jaren Mitcham (6’0″ | Hornbeck | 2022)
Rhett Petre Rhett Petre 6'1" | CG Simpson | 2021 State LA (6’1″ | Simpson | 2021)
Clyde Williams (5’9″ | Jehovah-Jireh | 2021)
Kenneth Wilson (6’1″ | Kilbourne | 2021)
The second team is a very solid group of class C stars as well. Rhett Petre Rhett Petre 6'1" | CG Simpson | 2021 State LA is a person I can see making the first team especially being the leading scorer on a state championship team. The Simpson wing makes my second team however. Wayne Huckaby Wayne Huckaby 6'0" | PG Calvin | 2022 State LA almost led his team past Phoenix to play in the state semifinal. He may be the 4-C MVP for a second consecutive year as well. Jaren Mitcham was Hornbeck’s leading scorer at 20 ppg and was a seminfinal loss away from guiding his team to the class C title game. Kenneth Wilson and Clyde Williams put up huge numbers in points and rebounds for their respective teams and should get at minimum second team honors. Williams at one point was averaging 30 ppg. That may get him a first team nod alone.
Other players that will get consideration on the first and second team will be:
Kody West (6’3″ | Jehovah-Jireh | 2021)
Nalon Narcisse (6’1″ | Phoenix | 2021)
Zach Vargas (5’7″ | Simpson | 2021)
The class C all-state team is usually announced the Sunday after the all-star game. This year the announcement is coming a little later. Watch your local or regional newspaper for the announcement.
