PDE’s Postseason Predictions: Class B All-State Team
In this article:
Simsboro clinched the class B state title for the third time in four years with a thrilling victory over Anacoco that literally came down to the final seconds. Now that the season is over, it is time to turn to postseason awards. I will take a look at who I feel will be members of the first and second team in class B for the 2020-21 season.
1st Team (Alphabetical order)
Jamarian Cato Jamarian Cato 6'4" | SF Simsboro | 2021 State LA (6’4″ Senior / Simsboro)
Jamaria Clark Jamaria Clark 6'2" | CG Doyline | 2023 State LA (6’1″ Sophomore / Doyline) – preseason selection
D’Marcus Fugett D’Marcus Fugett 6'5" | SG JS Clark Leadership | 2021 State LA (6’4″ Senior / JS Clark Leadership) – preseason selection
Shaun Riley Shaun Riley 6'7" | PF Anacoco | 2021 State LA (6’7″ Senior / Anacoco) – preseason selection
Drew Tebbe (5’10″ Senior / Anacoco)
In the preseason, there was some buzz in north Louisiana about Shaun Riley Shaun Riley 6'7" | PF Anacoco | 2021 State LA . He lived up to the billing and helped Anacoco become one of the best teams in class B. He was a double-double guy and really was effective protecting the rim. What slipped under the radar was the move of Drew Tebbe as well from Illinois to Anacoco. Tebbe was one of the best point guards all season. He took, and made, big shots. Tebbe also showed he was a true facilitator in his tenure as the Anacoco point. This tandum really made a difference in class B this season.
D’Marcus Fugett D’Marcus Fugett 6'5" | SG JS Clark Leadership | 2021 State LA is a given in my book. He was a 20, 10, and 5 guy this season. Those are MVP type numbers for any school let alone one in class B. We will see if those numbers garner him an MOP selection. He will definitely be a first team all-state selection. Because of the season Jamaria Clark Jamaria Clark 6'2" | CG Doyline | 2023 State LA had averaging right at 30 ppg while being one of the top rebounders and defenders on the Panthers team, I am expecting him to get a first team nod. Jamarian Cato Jamarian Cato 6'4" | SF Simsboro | 2021 State LA made many improvements to his game and led Simsboro in scoring and rebounding. He is one of the toughest players in Louisiana hoops and deserves a selection to the class B 1st team.
2nd Team (Alphabetical order)
Landry Alligood Landry Alligood 6'2" | SG Anacoco | 2021 State LA (6’2″ Senior / Anacoco) – preseason selection
Noah Guidry Noah Guidry 6'2" | SG Hathaway | 2021 State LA (6’3″ Senior / Hathaway) – preseason selection
Jamari Markray Jamari Markray 6'2" | SG Doyline | 2022 State LA (6’2″ Junior / Doyline)
Nick Maryland Nick Maryland 6'2" | CG Simsboro | 2022 State LA (6’2″ Junior / Simsboro) – preseason selection
Tevin Williams (6’4″ Senior / Mt. Hermon)
An Alligood selection would make him the third Indian to make the all-state team. He would be very deserving of the selection however. He was their best shooter and had multiple games where he was the leading scorer for Anacoco. Noah Guidry Noah Guidry 6'2" | SG Hathaway | 2021 State LA may not have led his team in scoring but he was one of the leaders in the Hathaway run to the Marsh Madness semis. I would not be surprised if he makes the first team instead of second team just because of his play during Marsh Madness. Markray was part of the Doyline backcourt that attempted to defend the class B title. He helped Doyline make the quarterfinals along with his 25 point scoring average. He should get the 2nd team placement from his effort all season.
Tevin Williams had another big season for Mt. Hermon and achieved in getting his team in position to host a first round playoff game. While they were not successful, Williams still made enough of an impression to garner a second team selection. Nick Maryland Nick Maryland 6'2" | CG Simsboro | 2022 State LA was the best defender on the best team in class B. His game-winning three may have sown up another title for the Tigers. I think it sowed up an all-state selection for him as well.
Others in contention:
Ian Augustine (5’10″ Senior / Hathaway) – Augustine can score and assist with the best of them and should make a push to be on the first or second team.
Trevor Daughtery Trevor Daughtery 6'2" | PG JS Clark Leadership | 2023 State LA (6’2″ Sophomore / JS Clark Leadership) – Averaging 12, 6, and 5 at any level is pretty good and Daugherty did that for one of the best four left standing. I do not know if it will garner him a first or second team selection but it is impressive nevertheless.
Chilaydrien Newton Chilaydrien Newton 6'3" | PG Simsboro | 2023 UT (6’3″ Sophomore / Simsboro) – The Simsboro sophomore is quickly rising as one of the best players in the state. He will probably end up on the honorable mention list. If he earns a first or second team selection however, we better watch out for the next two years.
Class B announcement will probably come during this coming weekend as the LSWA has begun to vote. Look for the class B all-state team on the website of your local/regional newspaper.
