After a tough Area loss to Dale, Union fought back to win four straight and a state championship over the Howe Lions. Union finished their storied season with a record of 25-2. Oklahoma Union defeated Howe 64-54.
Howe came into this contest red hot after knocking off Cashion and Dale, both common picks to win the whole tournament. The Lions never backed down the whole season. Their amazing run came to an end today, as they finish their season with a very impressive record of 23-5.
OK Union was in control of this one from the get go. Throughout the whole game, Howe couldn’t find a way to gain any ground. Once they got behind by 10, it was tough to cut into that lead. The closest they came was cutting it to six, but Jace Hollingshed couldn’t be stopped in the second half. They also got significant contribution from Nate Collier with a monster double-double. Union also got major contribution off the bench from Henry Auer. Auer had a huge three and a strong and-one.
Howe tried to fight back in the fourth quarter behind Zayn Coggins, but it was just too late. Coggins made tough three after tough three and finished the contest with 18 points. Howe couldn’t get to the free-throw line like Union did and it really hurt them late.
PROSPECTS:
Jace Hollingshed Union: Hollingshed is a star. He finished the game with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Hollingshed never forced shots and showed his high basketball IQ. He got to the free throw line, where he shot 75% and led his team the entire game. Hollingshed was extremely impressive and one of the best players on the floor.
Brayden Oglesby Howe: Oglesby had a tough shooting night statistically, but he had an impact on so many areas of the game. It’s clear that this Howe team looked to him for offense, and Oglesby is a pure scorer. He finished the game with 19 points and 5 rebounds. The defense was keying in on Oglesby the whole game and he created his own shot often.
Nate Collier Union: The OK Union big man finished the game with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The most impressive part, was that Collier grabbed nine offensive rebounds. He has a crazy motor and he was the energy in this Union squad. He was tough and finished through contact all night. Collier is a great free-throw shooter too. Very impressive showing.
Zayn Coggins Howe: Coggins passion for the game showed late in this contest. He was vocal on the floor, and then led by example knocking down shot after shot. He finished with 18 points and 4 assists. Coggins is a fast, shift guard that can shoot the lights out of the gym. He hit four threes tonight.
