Notables: 4A State Semifinals
In this article:
LAKELAND – Six more games were played on Thursday at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
Here are the results from the first two matchups of the day in Class 4A.
Santa Fe 64, West Nassau 63
Pine Crest 68, Astronaut 47
Here are my notes.
Amen & Ausar Thompson – Pine Crest
Combining for 45 points in a state semifinal win over Astronaut, the Thompson twins made it look effortless. The length on the 2022 6-6 duo, Amen and Ausar are hard for defenses. They block almost everything, grab boards routinely and set things up for thier teammates. Ausar Thompson dropped 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting in which 11 points came in the opening quarter. Amen Thompson had 18 points, eight assists, seven steals and seven rebounds.
Deebo Coleman Deebo Coleman 6'6" | SG West Nassau | 2021 State #49 Nation FL – West Nassau
Talk about putting it all on the line. One of the best pure scorers in the state if not the best, 2021 6-6 Georgia Tech commit Deebo Coleman Deebo Coleman 6'6" | SG West Nassau | 2021 State #49 Nation FL rained in 33 points for West Nassau in a last second loss to Santa Fe. He brought his team back from a double-digit deficit in the opening half and did all he could despite being double-teamed much of the second half. Coleman is a gamer and a very consistent scoring point man.
Dontrell Jenkins – Santa Fe
Anyone watching Santa Fe’s win over West Nassau certainly saw the incredible effort from 2023 5-9 guard Dontrell Jenkins. Adding 22 points and six steals, whenever the Raiders needed a bucket, it seemed he was always there. Jenkins made a nifty pass on the game-winning bucket from 2021 guard Willie Lewis. Whoever gets Jenkins for AAU will certainly love his 100 percent effort style.
Jace Carter Jace Carter 6'5" | CG Astronaut | 2021 State FL – Astronaut
In his final high school game, 2021 Illinois Chicago commit Jace Carter Jace Carter 6'5" | CG Astronaut | 2021 State FL scored 22 points in a loss to Pine Crest. Carter is a strong and vocal leader. He can shoot it well and create often. One of the hardest working kids, he is superb off the court with the community and is someone to view as a role model for the next cast of players. Carter will excel at the next level.
