It will be fun once the awards and accolades come out and the season winds down to see how the rankings shape up with the new guys added and the current members of the list. We have had a ton of high quality guards burst on to the scene this year in Kansas. Let’s take a look.
#23- Kernan Bundy Kernan Bundy 6'3" | SG Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS , Blue Valley North, 6’3 Guard: Bundy has worked tremendously hard on his game while his athletic traits already jump off the board, now he has the skill to go with it. He has been a vital cog to a terrific Blue Valley North team. He is a lock down wing defender, rebounds extremely well, has great hands to cause deflections on the defensive end of the floor. On offense he is a highlight reel in transition, runs the wings well, and makes plays at the rim with either hand. He is a good catch and shoot player as well, and his half court game has developed greatly this season. His meteoric rise should continue with a big spring and summer.
#44- Cooper Autry Cooper Autry 6'3" | SG Holcomb | 2022 State KS , Holcomb, 6’5 Guard: Autry is a really long guard who has come on to the scene making an impact on a very deep and dangerous Holcomb team. He has a high basketball IQ, picks his spots on offense well, and guards multiple positions on defense. The Holcomb guard shoots it extremely well from 3 and with his length makes him a really tough guard, and he uses his size to rebound the ball very well. He is a near double double threat from the wing every night.
#45- Ty Hofer, Basehor Linwood, 6’4 Guard: Confidence and accepting his role has played dividends for the rising stock of Ty Hofer. Since winter break, he is shooting a neck break percentage from 3 at over 50%, and shooting a higher volume as well. The stroke looks confident and pure from long range and he has even complimented the long ball with a nice mid range pull up game. He can guard multiple positions as well with his length and frame, and mixes it up on the glass. With backcourt playmakers Jordan Brown Jordan Brown 6'2" | SG St Francis | 2022 State GA and Trevor Mcbride Trevor Mcbride 6'2" | CG Basehor Linwood | 2022 State KS , Hofer has been a great 3rd wheel since the break and has rewarded his teammates drilling open looks from the perimeter.
#86- Servando Gonzalez Servando Gonzalez 5'10" | CG Lakin | 2022 State KS , Lakin, 5’10 Guard: One of the leaders in the back court for the one of the top ranked teams in 3A, Gonzalez is a terrific shooter who gives his team the ability to space defense out and stretch the floor. He has a nice release and ability to get his shot off at 5’10. Will be fun to see how he gets going in the playoffs when teams key in on the shooting ability. He is solid scoring the ball in transition as well, but makes his money from the 3 point line.
#90- Xander Landrie Xander Landrie 6'0" | CG Rose Hill | 2022 State KS , Rose Hill, 5’11 Guard: One of the better on ball defenders added to the 2022 rankings, the Rose Hill guard really has a knack for disrupting opposing guards and getting his hands on the basketball. He runs the offense for Rose Hill efficiently and can create plays for his teammates through the confines of the offense or out of structure off the bounce. Knocks down open shots as well. Really solid guard overall.
#105- Dylan Petz Dylan Petz 6'0" | CG Newton | 2022 State KS , Newton, 6’ Guard: Increasing his role from a pretty solid sophomore campaign. Recently he had a 12 point outing against a loaded Campus Colts team. Showcasing his ability to handle pressure with the dribble, rebounding well especially on the offensive end, and he knocker down open catch and shoot opportunities both stationary and off the moved.
#106- Allen Martinez Allen Martinez 5'8" | CG Lakin | 2022 State KS , Lakin, 5’8 Guard: Another Lakin guard who is a really good defender and fly’s around on that side of the floor. Has the ability to knock down 3’s as well. He brings a lot of energy and passion to the floor and although at 5’8, plays a lot bigger that his frame and with a ton of heart.
