The LHSAA state championships had everything from blowouts to Cinderella surprises on the first day. We will recap some of the top performers of the day and preview day 3.
Top Performers
Needless to say Zach Parrie Zach Parrie 5'11" | PG Ebarb | 2021 State LA and his 44 points to give Ebarb the victory over Phoenix was the top scoring performance of the first two days. What will get lost in that effort is the 39 points that Nashaun Reddick scored for Phoenix. Both players put on a show on day 1. Other top performers during the first two days:
Shaun Riley Shaun Riley 6'7" | PF Anacoco | 2021 State LA – His 36 point effort against JS Clark Leadership helped Anacoco advance to the Class B title game
Gage Larvadain Gage Larvadain 5'9" | PG Riverside | 2021 State LA – Larvadain scored 25 second half points (33 total) in the Riverside loss to Calvary Baptist in the Division IV semis.
Da’tayvious Gabriel Da’tayvious Gabriel 6'5" | SF St. Martinville | 2021 State LA – Gabriel and his 29 point effort was a big factor in the St. Martinville victory over Wossman in the 3A semis.
Nick Maryland Nick Maryland 6'2" | CG Simsboro | 2022 State LA – The Simsboro guard scored 25 points and had several blocks in the Simsboro win over Hathaway in the Class B semis.
Great Games
Simpson pulls out the one point victory over Hornbeck in one class C semis.
Daniel Ortiz Daniel Ortiz 6'1" | CG Calvary Baptist | 2021 State LA drains the last four free throws in the Calvary Baptist win over Riverside.
Freshman Hubert Caliste Hubert Caliste 6'6" | PF St. Augustine | 2024 State LA hits a massive three pointer in OT to send St. Augustine to the Division I title game against Scotlandville.
Crescent City holds on for a 57-53 victory against Metairie Park Country Day powered by freshman Jordan Moore Jordan Moore 6'4" | CG Hahnville | 2024 State LA and his 15 points.
Day 3 Preview
Class 4A has the top four seeds in the semifinals today. Carver and McMain from the New Orleans area will face off against Neville and Woodlawn-Shreveport from north Louisiana.
Rayville and Franklin may be involved in the most entertaining game of the day. This game may get up to the hundreds on both sides with both backcourts powering the engines of their respective teams.
St. Thomas More will take another step toward a Division II 4-peat with their game against Liberty in the CajunDome.
Class 5A heavyweights Hahnville and Natchitoches Central will face off in Burton Coliseum in one semifinal while Walker and Zachary face off in the other.
Day 3 should be just as exciting as the first two days of Marsh Madness. We will see what happens during day 3 of the LHSAA basketball state championships.
