I saw some exciting prospects and look forward to giving you my evaluations each and every Sunday throughout the season. It is time to recap Sectionals 10 and 39 and take a look at what our exciting prospects did.
Eastbrook vs. Sheridan – 3/2/2021
Silas DeVaney (Sheridan) (2022) – 6’2″ SF: Silas has a lot of length, and he used it to be aggressive scoring the ball early on. He can it to the rim strong, and he knows how to seal off the post defender to get easy buckets. In addition to his length, he always hustles and he remains under control with the ball in his hands which makes him an asset. DeVaney is a player to watch for Division 3 schools.
Madison-Grant @ Blackford – 3/2/2021
Kaden Howell Kaden Howell 5'10" | PG Madison-Grant | 2021 State IN (Madison-Grant) (2021) – 5’10″ PG: Kaden struggled on the offensive end in the first half, but it was largely in part to the energy he was using playing amazing defense on Luke Brown Luke Brown 6'1" | PG Blackford | 2021 State IN in the first half. In the second half, Howell’s shots started falling for him. All in all, Kaden is a player that can make a major impact on both ends of the floor at a Division 3 program, and he only holds an offer from Manchester at this moment.
Grant Brown Grant Brown 6'4" | SF Snider | 2022 State IN (Madison-Grant) (2021) – 6’3″ SG: Brown controlled the game in the first half with 14 points. He is a shooter of extremes meaning that can get hot and not miss, but he can also go ice cold. He is the best at scoring off of the dribble, getting to the rim, or pulling up. He also attacks the glass extremely well. He is a player, like Howell, who could make an immediate impact at the Division three level.
Luke Brown Luke Brown 6'1" | PG Blackford | 2021 State IN (Blackford) (2021) – 6’0″ PG: This was nowhere near Brown’s best game on the offensive end of the floor, but he was still very good. He has an endless range and makes plays all over the court. Luke did get a little frustrated early on due to the pressure defense by Kaden Howell Kaden Howell 5'10" | PG Madison-Grant | 2021 State IN all over the court, but he was able to settle down and make plays for the Bruins down the stretch. Brown currently sits at fifth in Indiana basketball history in total points scored, and he has a good chance to hit the 3,000 point threshold in the coming week.
Mt. Vernon (Fortville) @ Richmond – 3/3/2021
Amhad Jarrard Amhad Jarrard 6'4" | SG Mt. Vernon-Fortville | 2022 State IN (Mt. Vernon (Fortville)) (2022) – 6’4″ SG: Ahmad has Divison 1 potential, but there are sometimes that he just doesn’t show it. He has all of the skill and athleticism in the world, but he gets complacent at times. He had 16 in this one, but most were on fastbreak/break out bucks. This would’ve been the perfect opportunity for him to take over a game down the stretch and put it away, but he didn’t do it. If he is going to reach his full potential, this is something I need to see from him.
Armon Jarrard Armon Jarrard 6'2" | PG Mt. Vernon-Fortville | 2022 State IN (Mt. Vernon (Fortville)) (2022) – 6’1″ PG: Armon isn’t as athletic or as skilled as his brother, but that isn’t to say that he isn’t still very talented. In addition, he also hustled every second that he is on the floor which makes a major impact. He reads passing lanes well, has outstanding awareness, and he is aggressive on the glass. He is a stat-stuffer in every aspect besides points, but he can get his when needed. All in all, he is a player that knows what his team needs from him to win, and that is exactly what he does.
New Palestine vs. Greenfield-Central – 3/3/2021
Steele Brasfield Steele Brasfield 6'5" | SF New Palestine | 2022 State IN (New Palestine) (2022) – 6’5″ SF: Steele shot the ball very well in this one. He loves the catch and shoot as well as the dribble pull up. Brasfield has an outstanding shot stroke, but I haven’t seen him with the ability to create his own shot. This is the next step in his game, and it would really take his game to the next level if he can figure that part out.
Blaine Nunnally (New Palestine) (2023) – 5’10″ PG: Blaine is a younger player who has top-level court vision and loves to get his teammates involved. However, due to his inexperience, his decision making can get him into trouble. He sees the court and knows the move to make, but he wants too much at times which leads to turnovers. He had 8 assists in this one, but he also added 7 turnovers. This will improve with more experience, and when it does, he will be a solid point guard for New Palestine.
Gavin Robertson (Greenfield-Central) (2022) – 5’10″ PG: Gavin is a knock down shooter that did not miss in the Cougars win. He had some nice pull up J’s, and he was 3-3 from downtown. Just his shooting makes him a very interesting college prospect, but Robertson also sees the court well and would be able to run the point if they did not have Moles. He needs to bulk up a little more and improve on the defensive end, but as an offensive player, he will be able to make a difference at the next level.
Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN (Greenfield-Central) (2023) – 6’1″ SG: Moles is still extremely young, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by watching him play. As a sophomore, Moles has full control of the offense, and he runs it extremely well. He sets up his teammates, has a high basketball IQ, and he knows how to drive to the rim and draw fouls and finish. He is still young, so his decision making is still rusty, but this will improve. Moles can also score the ball well as he showed off a nice dribble pull-up and smooth reverse.
