Bodily Shines but North Gem Loses
James Bodily James Bodily 6'2" | SF North Gem | 2021 State ID scored 15 points and hit three 3s in the first quarter against the Blue Devils, including a deep triple as the buzzer sounded. Bodily was nothing short than sensational last night but North Gem did not prevail.
Dietrich continued to hound North Gem’s star, chasing him around the court, denying him the ball. Dietrich’s recipe on defense started to take its toll as North Gem scored only 20 second-half points in a 64-51 loss to the Blue Devils at Caldwell High School.
Bodily was automatic, shooting 9 of 12 in the first half for 22 points. However, he only attempted six shots in the second half and finished with 31 points.
Brady Power Brady Power 5'11" | PG Dietrich | 2021 State ID scored 24 points on 16 shots for Dietrich to lead the way, 13 of those points coming in the third quarter as the Blue Devils outscored North Gem 17-7 swinging the pendulum of momentum after trailing 31-25 at the break.
Jett Shaw and Cody Power added 13 points apiece for Dietrich, and Rhys Dill Rhys Dill 6'6" | C Dietrich | 2021 State ID had 20 rebounds for the Blue Devils.
North Gem plays Timberline at 2 p.m. Thursday in a loser-out game at Caldwell.
Stoddard Carries Grace to Victory
Gage Stoddard Gage Stoddard 5'11" | PG Grace | 2021 State ID for Grace dropped 33 points to help propel the Grizzlies to a first-round victory over Victory Charter 67-53.
Stoddard known for outside shooting only making one three the entire game but utilized his creativity with the dribble getting to the basket and being absolutely automatic from the charity strike going 10 for 10. As I mentioned before, Grace will go as far as Stoddard takes them.
Gilbert added 10 points to Stoddard’s big night. Grey Gibbs had just one point but pulled down 11 rebounds.
The win puts Grace into the semifinals against Lapwai, the consensus No. 1 team in the classification, which beat Liberty Charter 81-35 in the first round.
Rockland Smothers Clark Fork Defensively
Rockland’s defense was the star, setting a new 1A DII record for fewest points allowed in a state tournament game holding Clark Fork to just one 20 points in an blowout victory.
Rockland had 19 steals, led by Braden Permann’s eight. Some coaches have many offensive sets, but for Rockland it’s on the defensive end where they can throw 7 different full-court pressures.
On Wednesday, Neal pulled out a box-and-one, with Brigham Permann hounding Clark Fork’s leading scorer Cameron Garcia and it worked like a charm as Garcia finished with three points. The offense scored 57 points with three players in double figures. But the defense was the story and it will need to be on their A-game for their next opponent.
Next, the Bulldogs’ defense will take on Garden Valley, which scored 84 points in a first-round win over Carey.
