Some of the top talent from Northern and Southern California, and Nevada took part in the two-day event. I was able to focus on the players from the Class of 2024, and here’s a look at some of the top shooters who stood out over the course of the weekend.
1. Jake Wohl Jake Wohl 6'1" | CG Silverado | 2024 State NV – West Coast Select
Wohl was certainly one of the best shooters I saw at the event. He squares up well and he has a quick release. He has good hands and is already ready to catch a pass. He’s near automatic if left open; I saw him hit about 5-6 consecutive threes that were wide open. He likes the corner three and he has unlimited range. When he’s run off the line, he can handle the ball and hit open teammates. He makes good entry passes and is ready for the kickout.
2. Isaiah Gonzales – Cajon (CA)
Gonzales is a good outside shooter who has a very quick release. He can shoot with defenders rushing at him. Defenses have to respect his shot so he’s able to put the ball on the floor with a shot fake and get into the lane. He can draw contact and get to the free-throw line where he shoots it well. He uses screens well to get himself open and all he needs is one to two dribbles to get his shot off.
3. Derin Rustoglu – Gamepoint IE
Rustoglu was a solid point guard, but he also showed off his ability to shoot it from the outside. He was particularly good at pulling up from the three-point line in transition. He moved very well without the ball and likes to float to the corners. He also used off ball screens to get free. He can shoot with defenders in his space. When defenses close out on his shot, he can put the ball on the floor and makes plays.
4. Jayden Jones Jayden Jones 6'4" | SG Desert Oasis | 2024 State NV – West Coast Select
Jones was a solid all-around player who was one of the top players the entire weekend, but his outside shooting was particularly good. What stood out the most to me was his off-ball movement. He’s constantly in motion and defenders have to cover him tightly due to his shooting prowess. He knocks down those corner threes with consistency. He squares up well and sets his feet. Really solid catch and shoot player.
