Some of the top talent from Northern and Southern California, and Nevada took part in the two-day event. I was able to focus on the players from the Class of 2024, and here’s a look at some of the top point guards who stood out over the course of the weekend.
1. Keondre Leigh – Mojave (CA)
Leigh was a pretty solid point guard throughout the weekend playing with West Coast United. He pushes the ball well in transition. He has an explosive first step and can get to the rim with ease. He looks for his teammates when he slashes and he can find cutters along the baseline. Solid ball-handler. He’s very quick on the defensive end as well, he gets back on transition defense.
2. Andrew Grimshaw – Justin Siena (CA)
Grimshaw was one of the best floor leaders of the weekend with NBBA. He can really direct a team’s offense. He can get into the lane with dribble penetration and kick out to open shooters. He’s calm under defensive pressure and he can draw the defense on the perimeter as well and fire perfect passes to his teammates. He’s a quick and decisive passer who doesn’t hesitate. Offensively, he can create separation to free himself up for a little midrange jumper.
3. Christopher Carrillo – La Jolla Country Day (CA)
Carrillo was a 2025, but he made himself stand out against players a year older than him while playing for MultiLevel Basketball. He’s a very crafty ball-handler and he isn’t fazed by defensive pressure while dribbling. Has some nice little crossover moves. He’s unselfish and looks to make the right play. He’s small, but fearless, he attacks the rim with confidence and can finish through contact. Good body control at the rim. He’s a consistent shooting threat from three-point range.
4. Tyler Pitts – Etiwanda Intermediate (CA)
Pitts was another 2025 who played with Rancho Elite and he too was a solid point guard throughout the weekend. He probes the defense well and makes the right reads and passes. He can push the ball in transition and he can either find teammates running on the break or he can go coast coast and finish the play himself. Not afraid to challenge bigger defenders at the rim. Shoots the ball well and consistently from three-point range.
